Patient Access Associate

Position Overview The Patient Access Associate is responsible for providing professional and courteous service to patients and visitors while completing accurate and timely registration and patient access functions. This position serves as one of the first points of contact for patients and plays an important role in creating a positive patient experience. The Patient Access Associate will collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information, complete required registration documentation, assist with scheduling and financial processes, and ensure information is accurately entered into the hospital's electronic systems. Key Responsibilities Greet patients, visitors, and guests in a professional and courteous manner. Register patients accurately and efficiently for hospital and clinic services. Collect and verify demographic, insurance, employment, and other required patient information. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits as required. Obtain required signatures, consents, identification, and other documentation. Accurately enter and update patient information in the electronic health record and registration systems. Review registration information for accuracy and correct discrepancies. Collect applicable copayments, deductibles, deposits, and other patient balances in accordance with hospital procedures. Provide patients with receipts and appropriate information regarding registration and financial responsibilities. Assist patients with questions regarding the registration process and hospital services. Direct patients to the appropriate department, clinic, or service area. Answer and appropriately route telephone calls. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, nurses, and other hospital departments. Identify registration, insurance, authorization, or financial concerns and refer them to the appropriate department. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies. Provide professional and compassionate customer service, including during difficult or stressful patient interactions. Maintain accurate and organized documentation. Follow all hospital policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in required training and departmental meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to accurately enter and maintain confidential information. Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record and registration systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling protected health information. Ability to work professionally with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare staff. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or healthcare setting. Previous patient registration or patient access experience. Experience with insurance verification and eligibility. Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience with electronic medical records or hospital registration systems. Previous experience handling patient payments or financial transactions. Confidential: Understands the importance of protecting patient privacy and sensitive information. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to frequently use a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and employees. Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout the assigned work area. Ability to occasionally lift or carry office supplies or other items weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual and auditory ability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. This position is primarily performed in a hospital, clinic, registration, or other patient-facing environment. The Patient Access Associate will have frequent interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital employees. The position may involve exposure to individuals with infectious illnesses and other healthcare-related hazards.
