CHIEF NURSING OFFICER (CNO)

Job Summary:
The Vice President - Chief Nursing Officer is a member of the executive management team within the Hospital and is directly accountable to the President/Chief Executive Officer. The position requires that the individual be administratively and managerially competent. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the Organizational Goals & Priorities. Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization's established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
- Develops organization-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedure that describe how patients' nursing care needs (or patient populations receiving nursing care) are assessed, evaluated, and met.
- Participates with governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the organization's decision-making structures and processes.
- Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.
- Participates with other hospital leaders, medical staff, and clinical areas in the development of strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation and operational plans.
- Guides the Patient Care Services Department in developing long range objectives, plans and programs, and is responsible for integrating those with the overall strategies and tactics of the hospital.
- Develops objectives for, and monitors performance in the following areas: Patient care, patient satisfaction, employee performance and retention, staffing, budget, staff and managerial development, physician relations, and interdepartmental relations.
- Supports the schools of nursing for which the hospital provides clinical facilities by collaborating with directors and faculty to maintain an optimal learning environment, enhance educational experiences of students, and maintain open communication between schools of nursing and the hospital.
- Interprets and enforces policies in accordance with the Mississippi Nurse Practice Acts legal requirements and the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Hospital Accreditation Standards.
- Delegates functions and duties to hospital directors (regardless of discipline/department) as deemed necessary to accomplish the strategies/tactics of the hospital.
Work Experience: A minimum of five years' experience in nursing leadership in a top-level management position required.
