Middle School English Teacher – Paragon Prep
Paragon Prep has delivered a rigorous and nurturing environment to students PK-8th grade since 1997. Graduates are ready for the honors program of any high school and participate in athletics, academic competitions, robotics, and community service projects. Paragon delivers a first-rate education in a small setting for students who are excited about learning. About the Role
As a Middle School English Teacher at Paragon Prep, you will prepare and implement an engaging instructional program that helps students become thoughtful readers, effective writers, articulate communicators, and confident critical thinkers. This role is ideal for a committed educator who can create a classroom environment built on curiosity, structure, respectful discussion, and meaningful academic challenge.
You will guide students through the study of literature, informational texts, composition, grammar, vocabulary, research, and oral communication. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, energetic, and passionate about helping middle school students analyze complex ideas, express themselves clearly, and develop a lasting appreciation for language and literature.
You will also:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver comprehensive English Language Arts lessons aligned with middle school learning objectives.
- Use visual, audio, digital, interactive, discussion-based, and project-based instructional methods to make learning meaningful and accessible.
- Provide individualized and differentiated instruction that addresses students’ academic strengths, learning needs, and developmental levels.
- Create and distribute age-appropriate instructional content, including reading materials, notes, assignments, writing prompts, assessments, and projects.
- Guide students in analyzing literary and informational texts, identifying themes, evaluating evidence, and interpreting an author’s purpose and perspective.
- Develop students’ skills in narrative, informative, analytical, argumentative, and research-based writing.
- Strengthen students’ command of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence structure, and written conventions.
- Facilitate purposeful classroom discussions that promote active listening, respectful dialogue, collaboration, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Assess and document student progress and provide timely grades, constructive feedback, and academic support.
- Use student-performance data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment.
- Maintain a safe, organized, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment.
- Build positive relationships with students based on mutual trust, accountability, encouragement, and high expectations.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and opportunities for continued development.
- Collaborate with other teachers, specialists, administrators, families, and school stakeholders to support student success.
- Plan and participate in classroom activities, educational projects, school events, field trips, and other learning experiences.
- Monitor student behavior and well-being and follow all applicable school policies and mandated-reporting requirements.
- Participate in faculty meetings, parent conferences, staff collaboration, professional development, and other school-related activities.
- Maintain accurate academic, attendance, and classroom records.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, safety expectations, and applicable educational guidelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Degree in Education, English, English Language Arts, Literature, or a related field preferred.
- Teaching certificate preferred.
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience required.
- Demonstrated experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle-school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of literature instruction, composition, grammar, vocabulary, research, textual analysis, and age-appropriate instructional practices.
- Ability to design rigorous lessons that strengthen students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong classroom-management skills and the ability to create an engaging, respectful, and academically focused learning environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing classroom priorities effectively.
- A creative, energetic, and student-centered approach to teaching and learning.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, sound judgment, and personal accountability.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
- CPR knowledge or certification preferred.
- Commitment to professional development, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Must be able to work in person at the school campus.
