This vital role involves ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to create and execute personalized care plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate patient status updates to interdisciplinary team members promptly.
• Accurately transcribe and relay physician orders, both oral and written.
• Anticipate surgical team needs to facilitate efficient procedures and minimize patient trauma.
• Contribute to maintaining surgical schedules and timely starts.
• Understand anesthetic agents and assist with anesthesia as needed.
• Prepare surgical rooms, equipment, and supplies according to procedure requirements.
• Adhere to AORN guidelines for sterile technique and surgical counts.
• Provide safe postoperative care, including medication administration and IV therapy documentation.
• Assess and document patients' physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs upon admission.
• Educate patients and families about disease processes and treatment plans at an understandable level.
• Implement and adjust interdisciplinary care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Engage in continuous learning about new surgical procedures and best practices.
• Assist with one-day surgery cases and support unit operations such as restocking and narcotics checks.
• Mentor and orient new staff members to the unit.

Education and Certification

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Registered Nurse licensure valid in the applicable state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per American Heart Association standards.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required within one year of hire.
• Completion of Mandatory Reporter training at hire or within six months.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and professional licensure and regulatory training requirements.
