The exam fee is $55; an existing score may be transferred for $12. Selection Process Interview Background Check – approximately 4 weeks Polygraph – two weeks to complete when available Psychological evaluation, physical, and drug screening after a conditional offer is made – two weeks to complete Job Responsibilities Perform police patrol, traffic control and enforcement, initial investigations, and related functions involving safety and protection of life and property. Promote crime prevention, apprehend criminals, and enforce local, state, and federal laws in a designated area and shift. Respond to radio‑dispatched calls for action and assistance, render first aid, and provide assistance to citizens. Perform or assist in thorough preliminary investigations into criminal activity, including felony, misdemeanor, local ordinance violations, and petty crimes. Serve as Juvenile Officer, investigate crimes involving minors, provide counseling services, and coordinate with state and court systems. Apprehend, arrest, and transport suspects to police holding facilities, and transport offenders to and from county jail facilities as necessary. Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot; inspect business establishments and other buildings for illegal entry. Enforce village traffic ordinances, regulate traffic, perform speed control, issue citations, and monitor for stolen vehicles. Prepare, maintain, and forward reports and records of activities; prepare cases for court presentation and provide testimony. Perform community relations duties, speak to schools and community groups, and provide road information and assistance to motorists. Follow all safety regulations, report unsafe conditions, and report accidents promptly. Perform other duties reasonably within scope as requested or assigned. Qualifications & Certifications Associates degree or equivalent military experience within six months of initial employment, plus certification of training by an accredited school of law enforcement in Illinois.
