Director of Operations, Administration, and Strategy

Director of Operations, Administration, and Strategy – Graduate School of Education, Stanford University – Brain Development and Education Lab Location: Stanford, California. Salary: $120,276 to $160,148 per annum (subject to internal equity and market adjustments). Position Summary ROAR is a rapidly growing program that has been approved as a universal screener across multiple states and supports hundreds of thousands of students nationwide. The Director of Operations, Administration, and Strategy will join the lab’s leadership team, providing oversight of administrative functions, strategic planning, and liaison with central university offices. The role focuses on building robust organizational infrastructure and coordinating operational support to enable research and practice. Areas of Responsibility Administrative Leadership & Infrastructure Lead core administrative functions, including contract management, proposal development, financial coordination, and operational support. Oversee contract and license agreement management, drafting, tracking, and ensuring compliance. Coordinate grant and proposal development, managing cross‑team inputs and submission timelines. Develop and monitor budgets, partner with Stanford finance teams, and ensure fiscal stewardship. Coordinate events and logistical support to advance the lab’s mission. Establish and refine administrative systems, workflows, and documentation and recommend staffing solutions. Organizational Operations & Strategic Coordination Support long‑range strategic planning and translate vision into operational plans. Lead development and tracking of lab‑wide implementation plans across research, programs, partnerships, and operations. Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration to ensure alignment and reduce bottlenecks. Conduct operational gap analyses and recommend improvements to infrastructure and staffing. Implement scalable operational structures for current and future growth. Serve as a thought partner on organizational development and future capacity planning. Core Duties Manage staff operations, hiring, coaching, and performance management. Collaborate with GSE HR and faculty supervisors on HR policy implementation. Evaluate business processes, analyze effectiveness, and propose solutions. Lead process improvement initiatives for the lab. Recommend staffing, facilities, safety, finance, technology, and administrative changes. Support GSE Dean’s Office in resource planning for faculty activities. Ensure compliance with university policies and academic standards. Manage finances across budgets, forecasting, and reporting. Coordinate grants and contracts, ensuring adherence to internal and external requirements. Represent the unit’s business and academic operations within the school. Minimum Requirements Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated supervisory skills, including conflict resolution. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent planning and organizational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of accounting, budget planning, and financial forecasting. Experience with grants and contract administration. Strong negotiation abilities. Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in business and management computer applications and databases. Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements. Ability to multi‑task and manage deadlines. Subject matter expertise for the areas of responsibility. Up‑to‑date awareness of industry trends and general knowledge. Preferred Qualifications Experience with and knowledge of educational systems.
