Step into a rewarding opportunity providing one-on-one support to a 9th grade student as a Sign Language Interpreter for the new school year! In this contract role near Elkhorn, NE, you’ll have the chance to make a meaningful impact while collaborating with educators and helping a student access their education more fully.
This assignment runs from August 20th through May 27th, with a steady 35-hour work week. You’ll work directly with a student who is beginning to experience hearing loss and requires both signing and verbal interpretation, offering a unique blend of signing skills and adaptable communication. This environment values your flexibility—there’s openness to virtual demonstration if you’d like to showcase your skills remotely.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience
- Experience supporting students in a school setting is highly preferred
- Comfort providing both sign and spoken language interpretation simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build rapport with students and educational staff
- Relevant certification or licensure for educational interpreting
Responsibilities Include:
- Deliver one-on-one interpretation services for a high school student, ensuring clear communication in both signed and spoken English
- Adapt interpreting style to match the student’s developing needs
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to foster an inclusive classroom environment
- Support the student’s social and academic engagement throughout the school year
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
