Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - School Health Program

Protouch Staffing is seeking compassionate and dependable Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to support school health programs throughout the Houston area.

Assignments may range from providing routine student health services and first aid to supporting students with complex medical needs, including students requiring tracheostomy, ventilator, or G-tube care.

The Role

As a School LVN, you will provide safe, compassionate nursing care to students while working as part of the school health team and under the direction of the supervising RN/DON.

You may work in the special education classroom setting, provide dedicated 1:1 nursing care, or ride the bus (split shifts - morning & afternoon) for students with specialized medical needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and basic nursing care to students throughout the school day
• Provide clinic-based, classroom, or 1:1 nursing care
• Monitor student health status and vital signs
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered
• Provide care for students with complex medical needs, including:
• Tracheostomy care
• Ventilator-dependent students
• G-tube/enteral feeding care
• Other specialized nursing needs
• Recognize changes in a student's condition and respond appropriately
• Respond to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions within scope of practice
• Maintain accurate and timely student health documentation
• Assist with health screenings, including vision and hearing screenings as applicable
• Communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, and the school nursing team
• Support student health plans and accommodations
• Assist with implementation of health-related portions of IEP/ARD requirements as directed
• Provide health education and guidance to school personnel when appropriate
• Follow school district policies, Texas nursing regulations, and established care plans
• Maintain confidentiality and protect student health information
• Support a safe, healthy, and inclusive learning environment

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Texas LVN/LPN license or compact license eligible to practice in Texas
• Minimum 2 years of LVN/LPN experience preferred
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR certification
• Ability to safely administer medications and treatments within LVN scope of practice
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in a student's condition
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with the school nursing team
• Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency or high-stress situations
• Willingness to complete required school district onboarding and credentialing

School Health Requirements

Candidates must be able to provide required health and compliance documentation, which may include:

• Current immunization records (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B)
• TDAP
• Current TB skin test or chest X-ray, as required
• District-required fingerprinting/background screening
• Additional school district-specific documentation as applicable

Experience That Can Translate Well to School Nursing

LVNs with experience in the following environments are encouraged to apply:

• Special-needs nursing, Trach/vent care, G-tube/enteral feeding
• Pediatric nursing
• School nursing
• Skilled nursing/Long-term care
• Rehabilitation
• Med/Surg
• Emergency/urgent care
• Home health/private duty
• PRN/per-diem nursing

Experience with trach, ventilator, G-tube, or other complex-care patients is especially valuable for certain school assignments.
