Job Status: Full-time; Non-exempt

Pay: Technician I: $18–$21/hour; Technician II: $22–$25/hour, depending on qualifications

Reports to: Utilities Supervisor

The Town is accepting applications for one Utilities Service Technician position . The selected applicant will be hired at the Technician I or Technician II level based on qualifications and the Town’s operational needs. What you’ll do

Maintain and repair the Town’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including water and sewer lines, meters, valves, hydrants, and lift station equipment. Duties include inspecting systems, responding to service needs, using utility tools and equipment, documenting work, and helping restore work sites. The position may also assist other Town departments with community projects and events.

At the Technician I level, the employee assists with this work, develops field skills, and performs repairs under supervision. At the Technician II level, the employee independently diagnoses and completes more complex repairs, responds to utility emergencies, works on pumps and other equipment, and mentors less experienced staff.

Minimum qualifications

• Both levels: High school diploma or GED and a valid Florida Class E driver’s license with no more than six points in a three-year period.
• Technician I: No prior utility experience required. Utility, construction, or public works experience and mechanical or electrical aptitude are preferred. Within 12 months of hire, the employee must meet the FDEP-recognized educational qualifications to sit for the Water Distribution Operator exam.
• Technician II: At least two years of experience maintaining, repairing, or constructing water or sewer lines or lift stations. A Florida FDEP Water Distribution Operator Class C license and electrical or mechanical experience are preferred.

This position involves outdoor work in varying weather, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and availability for overtime and on-call work during evenings, weekends, and emergencies.
