Facilities Technician

Applications are being accepted for a Facilities Technician at Northwest State Community College. The primary responsibilities include general maintenance work, as needed. Perform groundskeeping, landscaping, snow removal, and custodial project work and custodial equipment maintenance.

Normal Weekly Hours: 40 for 12 months per year. Hours vary between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Days/hours will vary due to operational situations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform general building and maintenance activities as needed, including painting, staining, light carpentry, prep work, and light maintenance of equipment and machinery.
2. Verify and keep records of incoming shipments and prepare for delivery. Compare identifying information and counts to ensure the accuracy of orders received and shipped.
3. Unpack, examine, and deliver items to all departments when received and record any damage or discrepancies.
4. Facilitate campus-wide Recycling Program and promote Reuse and Reduce on campus and with external recyclers.
5. Maintain Surplus auction site for the college, including logistics.
6. Maintain fleet of campus vehicles including routine maintenance scheduling, cleaning, fueling, and identifying repair requirements.
7. Perform snow removal, salting of walkways, shoveling, and being prepared for off-hours work during cold weather events as required for the safety and continuity of campus needs. Driving powered equipment is typically required to fulfill this duty.
8. Perform set-up and tear-down activities for special events and daily meeting requirements. This includes meeting with the requester to ensure the building fire codes are maintained, and the request is within the capabilities of the facility.
9. Perform office and classroom moves as needed for renovations and facility projects.
10. Perform general landscaping and grounds maintenance including lawns and planting beds. Keep building grounds free of litter. Remove debris and empty trash receptacles as needed.
11. Assist in training and providing direction to "Work Transition" students in recycling activities and other minor facility tasks deemed suitable by the job coordinator from the Four County Career Center.
12. Custodial-based project work including cleaning and maintaining the high-quality conditions of the campus as needed.
13. Perform off-site duties as required for the campus, including banking requests, mail pick-up, minor facility pick-ups and purchases, and other tasks that require off-site visits.
14. Assist in performing facility fire watches as needed.
15. Emphasis on outstanding customer service at all times.
16. Other similar duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Past groundskeeping, general maintenance, and shipping/receiving experience preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Complete and thorough understanding of shipping and receiving practices.
• Ability to organize and direct daily operations tasks, strong planning skills, devoted follow-through, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Customer service emphasis essential.
• Ability to learn recycling programs or refuse collection.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work at heights up to 25 feet with ladder and lifts.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to obtain a forklift license.
