Description


Mowing of grass, spraying bushes/trees, lawnmower maintenance/vehicle maintenance, and all other duties as assigned. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, and college emergencies. This position is designated as "essential" and will be required to report to work outside normal work hours. Essential personnel may be called in to work outside of regular working hours to assist with snow removal during inclement weather and other college activities throughout the year.

Examples of Duties

• Assists mowing grass, trimming grass.
• Assists in spraying around all buildings, trees, bushes, rooftops, curb /blacktop/gutters.
• Assists in lawn mower/equip maintenance.
• Performs vehicle maintenance.
• Assists in snow removal and sprayer license re-certification.
• Assists other technicians painting curbs/gutters.
• Performs unlocking doors of vehicles for students, faculty and staff.
• Performs jumpstart of vehicles for students, faculty and staff.
• Participates in various investigative boards and hearings.
• Performs golf cart maintenance.
• Assists in various construction work.
• Assists in trimming/removal, planting trees, bushes, and flower gardens.
• Assists in inventory/order parts, supplies.
• Assists in helping mailroom.
• Assists in keeping vehicle maintenance records.
• Performs welding/torch work.
• Assists athletics in various duties.
• Assists in moving furniture, supplies to/from various offices, classrooms.
• Performs pest control.
• Assists in tent setup/breakdown.
• Performs answering phone when secretary is out.
• Performs janitorial duties.
• Trains part time help in equipment operation/various other duties.
• Participates in annual training for Blood Borne Pathogens.
• Wears college supplied uniform in order to be readily identified as a Chesapeake College Facilities Department employee.

Qualifications


High school diploma or G.E.D. Willingness to acquire chemical spray license within the time parameters established by the state. Skill to operate and repair mowers, tractors, vehicles. Knowledge of chemical spray technique.

Physical Requirements

• Receive instructions through various communication media accurately and quickly.
• Convey answers or instructions to other workers accurately and quickly.
• Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
• The worker will be subject to dust, noise, fumes, and odors.
• The workers will be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions.
• The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, sitting and feeling.
• Safety equipment will be provided where needed and required to worn or used.
