Work Schedule:

• 40 hours per pay period (every 2 weeks).
• Daylight hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., across the week!
• Rotating on-call for nights, weekends, and holiday coverage at UPMC Children's Hospital and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.
• Occasional, rotating travel may be required to other UPMC Children's locations for specialized coverage support, including Wexford, Bridgeville, and/or Monroeville.
• Occasional coverage in Johnstown, Washington, Erie, and/or Sharon may be possible, as well.

Now is an exciting time to join our Cardiology Echocardiography Department, a specialized Pediatric and Congenital Heart Imaging program supporting outpatient, inpatient, and procedural areas! The Pediatric Echocardiographer position is integral to providing high-quality diagnostic Echocardiography, supporting on-call coverage, and collaborating with an experienced multidisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities:

• Perform full range of echocardiography examinations and studies (two-dimensional imaging and Doppler) on children with heart disease, as well as diagnostic portable echocardiographic studies independently.
• Perform miscellaneous laboratory duties (maintain supplies and equipment, pull and key echo studies, etc.) and clerical duties (patient logbooks, patient billing, etc.).
• Identify four interesting cases, one simple shunt, one simple stenosis, and one complex lesion case (as defined by the divisional director) per quarter and log these cases into the Sonographer QA binder.
• Must be able to provide on-call, overtime, and weekend coverage, as well as support examinations at the main campus, satellite, and/or any outreach location(s).
• Work with all makes of equipment and explore new procedures and technology.
• Provide guidance and instruction to less experienced scanners (cardiac sonographers, ultrasound students, cardiology fellows) to improve their imaging skills.
• Review patient's medical history to determine what echocardiographic information is needed, and work with patients and their families to secure cooperation.

Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree or graduate of accredited Ultrasound training program. Basic science area, such as Ultrasound, with an emphasis on cardiac anatomy and physiology or related healthcare field.
• Program must have provided didactic and supervised clinical experience in echocardiography and be accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
• 2 years of experience required in Echocardiography and related procedures.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
• Pediatric Certification is required.
• Adult Certification is required within 1 year of hire.
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI clearances with renewals.
