Overview

As a Building Systems Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient operation of healthcare facilities. This position is responsible for programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining building automation, HVAC control, and energy management systems that support critical infrastructure. Working with advanced control technologies, networking systems, and construction documents, you will apply your technical expertise to optimize system performance, solve complex challenges, and help ensure a reliable environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, programming, and expansion of building automation systems that support critical healthcare operations.
  • Develop and optimize control logic, graphics, and system integrations while partnering with IT and technical teams to ensure secure, reliable performance.
  • Drive system upgrades, maintain accurate equipment records, and enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, mechanical, and life safety systems to ensure uninterrupted facility operations.
  • Perform repairs, testing, and preventive maintenance, including fire and smoke damper inspections and documentation.
  • Support emergency response activities, participate in on-call coverage, and collaborate with facility staff to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Maintain documentation and regulatory compliance, champion safe work practices, and serve as a technical resource for team members.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies through ongoing training, recommend system improvements, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and operational excellence. 
Qualifications

Education:  

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in industrial technologies, electronics, or a related field; alternatively, completion of a maintenance/trade school program preferred.

Experience:  

  • Two (2) years of industrial or commercial maintenance experience, with general knowledge of electro-mechanical equipment and systems, ability to read and understand blueprints, and effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Five (5) years maintenance experience in an industrial or commercial setting focused on troubleshooting and repair of BAS preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):  

  • EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification preferred.
  • HVAC State License(s) or certification through the Iowa Department of Human Services (IADHHS) and/or Illinois Department of Public Health (ILDPH) preferred. 
  • Licensed Electrical Contractor (OADPS) preferred. 
  • AUTOINS required when driving a personal vehicle. 
  • Valid Driver’s Licenserequired.
