As a Behavioral Health Technician I, you will provide direct and supportive care to clients and patients receiving behavioral health and substance use treatment services. This role is responsible for helping maintain a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment while supporting day-to-day program operations. You will assist with monitoring health and wellness, responding to crisis situations, facilitating structured activities, documenting progress, and collaborating with the treatment team to support individualized care plans. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct support and supervision to clients/patients in behavioral health, residential, and recovery settings
  • Assist with admissions, orientation, transfers, and discharge processes
  • Monitor clients/patients throughout the day to ensure safety and compliance with program expectations
  • Obtain and document vital signs and relevant health information per policy and as directed by medical staff
  • Observe and report signs and symptoms of withdrawal and escalate medical concerns when appropriate
  • Assist with medication administration and medication documentation in accordance with training and agency policy
  • Maintain medication inventory, storage, and documentation procedures, including OTC medication oversight
  • Facilitate urine collection, specimen preparation, lab send-offs, and documentation as required
  • Monitor blood glucose documentation and maintain approved medical equipment as directed
  • Assist with supervision checks and precaution monitoring in accordance with safety protocols
  • Support clients with daily living activities including hygiene, grooming, dressing, and general wellness when applicable
  • Encourage clients to follow program expectations using trauma-informed communication and redirection techniques
  • Participate actively as part of the treatment team by identifying client strengths, needs, and goals
  • Document behaviors, incidents, progress, and shift updates in a timely and accurate manner
  • Facilitate or assist with group education, recovery skills, structured activities, and recreation groups
  • Assist with transportation to and from appointments or program-related services as assigned
  • Respond to crisis situations and communicate promptly with supervisors and treatment team members
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment throughout the facility
  • Report maintenance concerns, broken equipment, or safety issues following reporting procedures
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and team staffing sessions
  • Support program goals and organizational initiatives
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
Residential Facility & Withdrawal Management Responsibilities (when applicable):
  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms and assist in supporting safe detoxification and recovery needs
  • Identify when symptoms require escalation to nursing or medical intervention
  • Maintain medication storage and destruction procedures according to agency policy
Residential Care Facility (RCF) Responsibilities (when applicable):
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living and personal care
  • Obtain Level 1 Medication Aide (LIMA) credential and insulin certification within required timeframe
  • Monitor medication self-administration with physician orders and proper documentation
Adolescent Program Responsibilities (when applicable):
  • Support adolescents through age-appropriate engagement and structured therapeutic programming
  • Complete required youth-focused training related to adolescent development and family systems
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of responsible employment required
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, healthcare, or human services preferred
Residential Care Facility (RCF):
  • Must obtain Level 1 Medication Aide (LIMA) credential within ninety (90) days of hire
  • Must obtain insulin certification within ninety (90) days of hire
Exceptions to qualifications may be approved by the appropriate Executive Team member.

Required License/Certification (one of the following):
  • Valid driver's license in state of residence
  • Medication Administration certification according to program requirements
  • Level 1 Medication Aide (LIMA) certification for Residential Care Facility roles
  • CPR certification within three (3) months of hire
  • First Aid certification within three (3) months of hire
Additional Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of confidentiality laws related to mental health and substance use treatment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to document clearly and accurately within electronic medical records
  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong observation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during crisis situations
  • Basic math skills for documentation and medication-related tasks
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, coworkers, and treatment teams
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and recovery-focused care
Supervisory Requirements:
  • None
Employment Requirements:
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at beginning of employment
  • Completion of all required trainings, including Relias, upon hire and annually thereafter
  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance
  • First Aid certification within three (3) months of employment and upon renewal
  • CPR certification within three (3) months of employment and upon renewal
  • Medication Administration training per assigned program standards
  • Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days or first available class:
    • CPI for Residential programs
    • Crisis Management on Relias for Outpatient programs
  • Missouri staff: completion of thirty-six (36) hours of training every two years per 9 CSR 10-7.110 E1
  • Completion of forty (40) hours of related training annually where applicable
  • Maintain knowledge of program policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age to operate company-owned vehicles
  • Must be at least twenty-three (23) years of age to operate company-owned fifteen-passenger vans

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including repetitive hand, finger, and arm movement for typing and documentation.

Sedentary work primarily involves sitting but may include frequent walking, standing, assisting with daily client activities, and transporting clients throughout the workday.
