We are seeking a highly motivated entry-to-junior-level engineer to support our growing waterfront consulting practice in New York. The ideal candidate will support the firms’ effort to apply sustainable and resilient design principles to natural and human-made coastal, riverine, and aquatic environments. You will work collaboratively with senior engineers and project managers across a diverse portfolio of marine and coastal infrastructure projects—from conceptual design through construction.

This Position

As a growing waterfront-focused firm with an expanding client base across several states, federal agencies, local municipalities, and private waterfront owners, Littoral Group has a need for a junior engineer to contribute to the design, analysis, and field inspection of marine and coastal structures.

The selected candidate will develop technical expertise across a range of waterfront structure types and contribute to project teams from concept through final design and construction administration. Candidates should expect 40 to 45 hours per week of work consisting of an on-site, in-office, and remote work environment.

Primary Focus Includes

Design & Technical Production

• Develop technical expertise in waterfront structure and marine infrastructure projects, including harbors, marinas, vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads and seawalls, breakwaters and shore protection structures, shoreline stabilization, and sediment management.

• Contribute to project teams from conceptual design to detailed final design, including calculations, modeling, and drawing production.

• Prepare cost estimates, project schedules, engineering reports, design calculations, and other technical documents.

Field Work & Construction Support

• Conduct field work including waterfront facility inspections and construction observation at project sites across the NY metro area and northeastern U.S.

• Support construction administration activities including submittal review, RFI responses, and site documentation.

• Navigate waterfront and marine environments, including unpaved or natural terrain, while carrying field equipment.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate across disciplines with structural, civil, and environmental team members on multidisciplinary waterfront projects.

• Support data and spreadsheet management, document production, and deliverable coordination.

• Contribute to concept and solution development under the direction of senior engineers and project managers.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, or Coastal Engineering.

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate, having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam prior to start of employment.

• Entry level to two years of experience as a waterfront, structural, coastal, or geotechnical engineer, preferably with internships or co-op positions in the field.

• General understanding of the coastal and marine environment.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite. Must have the ability to sketch and draft.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and as a team player.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess

• Coursework or project experience in coastal engineering, marine structures, or port and harbor design.

• Exposure to waterfront inspection methodologies, including ASCE MOP 130 or similar standards.

• Familiarity with wave analysis, coastal processes, or hydrodynamic modeling software.

• Interest in sustainable and resilient waterfront design, including living shorelines and nature-based features.

• Experience with structural analysis software (RISA, SAP2000, or similar).

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, or Coastal Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
