Generator Service Technician

Role Description The Generator Service Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Buckhannon, WV. This role is responsible for performing scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and small repairs on Generac Generators, both in the shop and at customer locations. Daily tasks include inspecting equipment, possibly troubleshooting small mechanical and electrical issues, replacing parts, completing oil and air filter changes, and documenting all work performed in service records. The technician communicates with customers to explain findings, provide recommendations, and ensure that systems operate safely and reliably. The position may involve occasional after-hours or weekend work to support emergency service needs and uphold Crites Electric’s 24/7 service commitment, but these are not on a regular basis and you would compensated for the additional time. You will need to have a clean driving record and get a Class D driving license if you do not have one. There is a lot of driving involved in the position, so you must be okay with driving for a good portion of your shift, as we service all over the North Central WV Area. We do provide company attire while working with us, as well as a company truck and cell phone to work while on the clock. Most of the field employees elect to work 4 day weeks of 10 hour shifts so they get 3 day weekends. Other arrangements for a work schedule could potentially be discussed. Currently, most of them work Mondays-Thursdays. We do work year-round in all weather conditions. We do not take rain days, snow days, etc. hardly ever. So, you must be willing to work in all weather conditions. We do provide some resources - like a winter jacket, rain jacket, umbrellas, etc. and some other resources to help combat the conditions, but we still work. Qualifications Strong Maintenance & Repair skills, including routine servicing and corrective repairs on generators and related equipment (we do provide some basic training). Proficiency in Troubleshooting and diagnostics for mechanical, electrical, and control system issues preferred. Experience in Field Service work, including traveling to customer sites and working independently in varied conditions. You will be doing a lot of driving, so you must be okay with driving daily. Effective Customer Service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, set expectations, and maintain professional relationships. General Maintenance abilities, including safe use of tools, adherence to safety procedures, and accurate completion of service documentation. Preferred experience with generator systems, electrical work, or related trades; Generac-specific training or certifications are a plus, but not required. Ability to lift and move equipment as required, work safely in field environments, and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in electrical or mechanical fields is beneficial. Be able to pass a drug test. Have a clean criminal record. Company provided vehicle during work hours. You are not permitted to take it home. Company provided cell phone during work hours. You are not permitted to take it home. Company provided upper wear (tshirts, rain jacket, winter coat, etc.) if you remain with company long enough to wear while working. Medical, Prescription, Dental, and Vision insurance is available after successfully and satisfactorily completing a probationary period. The company will pay for part of that if you choose to enroll in any of the offerings. They are optional. We do offer options for a Retirement Plan after successfully and satisfactorily completing a probationary period. PTO, Vacation Time, Sick Time, Holiday Pay etc. is available after successfully and satisfactorily completing a probationary period. They are optional to redeem (other than the Holiday pay) and do build the longer you stay with the company. If you elect or don't use all of the time during the year, we do pay it out to you. We are willing to be flexible within in reason with your time after showing loyalty to the company. We have loyal customers and are constantly booked months out, so there is never a shortage of work, so you will always have a steady paycheck. We pay weekly. We try to show our appreciation for our employees in little ways, such as some munchies in the morning almost every week, having a Christmas dinner, often doing pay raises as we can when we see our employees growing or doing a bonus at the end of the year, trying to praise and thank them just so they know, checking in on them and connecting with them on a personal level - not just seeing them as a number, etc. No one is perfect and we don't always get it right, but we try. Paid travel and expenses to the Generac trainings if you work out and intend to stick around for the company for a while.
