In this role, you'll prepare and replenish products, assist customers at the bakery counter, and help create the kind of warm, welcoming experience that keeps people coming back.If you enjoy working with your hands, take pride in a job well done, and love being part of a team that makes customers' days a little sweeter, this could be a great fit for you.What You'll DoNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakeryAssist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counterReview daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shiftPrepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for bakingFollow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all timesCheck in product, put product away, and review invoices as neededOperate the department register to process payments where applicableRemove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy departmentWork alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customerMaintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policiesAssist in other store areas and take on special projects as neededYou'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department ManagerYour SkillsYou don't need prior experience for this role! To be successful, you'll need to be able to:Follow written and verbal instructions with confidenceUse basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recordingCommunicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful wayStay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environmentLess than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferredReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department ManagerEducation and ExperienceLess than a high school diploma or equivalent experience acceptedUp to six months of similar or related work experience preferredPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis role is based in a store bakery environment where things stay busy and engaging. You may encounter exposure to flour dust, noise, temperature extremes, and damp conditions, all pretty standard for a bakery setting. The role also involves working with and around standard bakery equipment and may include exposure to electrical equipment and cleaning products or solvents.
