Animal Health Technician

Qualifications Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire. No minimum education required. Experience working in a veterinary hospital environment with small animals. Experience in calculating and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally. Experience with surgical asepsis and how it relates to direct contamination of patients, instruments and sterile supplies. Experience performing standard hospital sanitation/disinfection protocols. Skills to use medical and dental terminology, and knowledge of basic dental disease processes and dental procedures. Skill to clean, wrap and sterilize instruments and packs and perform sterile techniques. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients and the skill to recognize and manage difficult situations. Preferred Qualifications Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License. Experience maintaining equipment in proper working order. Skill to aseptically set up an operating room with instruments and equipment. Knowledge of dental radiographic techniques and safety.
