Senior Java Back End Developer (GCP) - Remote/Hybrid

Salary: $145,600 - 166,400 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• 7+ years of software development experience building enterprise applications and APIs
• 5+ years of Java development experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Maven, and Gradle
• Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Experience with GKE, Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architectures
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations
• Experience with Apache Kafka or managed Kafka platforms such as Confluent Cloud
• Experience with MongoDB Atlas and NoSQL database design principles
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools
• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or comparable technologies
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, resiliency, scalability, and performance optimization
• Experience working in Agile and DevOps delivery models
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, architecture, and business teams
• Preferred: experience with Google Cloud services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Monitoring and Logging, Cloud Build, and Cloud SQL
• Preferred: Google Cloud Professional Cloud Developer or Professional Cloud Architect certification
• Preferred: experience implementing Event-Driven Architecture (EDA)
• Preferred: experience with API gateways and service mesh technologies
• Preferred: experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Datadog
• Preferred: experience developing financial services or high-volume transaction-processing systems

• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to create enterprise API and event-driven integration solutions
• Develop software in an Agile environment using DevOps practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
• Design and implement secure, scalable, resilient microservices deployed on Google Cloud Platform
• Build and maintain event-driven systems using Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns
• Integrate applications with MongoDB Atlas and other enterprise data platforms
• Develop automated testing strategies covering unit, integration, contract, and performance testing
• Implement observability practices, including centralized logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting
• Maintain and evolve existing enterprise integration assets and cloud-hosted services
• Partner with platform engineering and infrastructure teams to improve deployment automation, cloud operations, security, and reliability
• Mentor technical colleagues and guide application architecture, coding standards, and cloud-native practices

We are recruiting a Senior Java Back End Developer (GCP) for a contract with a regional financial institution in Columbus, Ohio. The opportunity is expected to last at least six months and may be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement from Columbus. Compensation is $70–$80 per hour on a W-2 basis, depending on qualifications. The role centers on designing, developing, and supporting enterprise APIs and cloud-native applications on Google Cloud, including a new payments API platform built with scalable, secure microservices and modern Java technologies.
