job summary:
Seeking an Optics Buyer REMOTE for a high growth infrared, optics and sensor DoD contractor client in the Dallas, TX area. This is a FULLY REMOTE opportunity with requirements to travel to supplier sites and occasionally to Dallas, TX or Melbourne, FL.

The Optics Buyer would be responsible for executing strategic and tactical procurement, sourcing, and supplier management for high-precision optical components, sub-assemblies, and specialized electro-optical hardware. Operating remotely while closely integrating with the FL and TX engineering and production hubs, this role ensures the end-to-end delivery of critical optical payloads for airborne, ground, and military defense applications. Experience with high volume buying of optical products and production fit-to-print environments is a must have!

responsibilities:

• Execute procurement for complex optics, IR sensors, and mechanical housings based on ERP demand and BOMs.

• Issue RFPs/RFQs, negotiate purchase orders, and conduct cost/price analyses to hit savings targets.

• Ensure full compliance with FAR, DFARS, ITAR/EAR, and company procurement standards.

• Maintain audit-ready files for CPSR/DCAA reviews and manage secure technical data transfers to vendors.

• Manage optics vendors and glass foundries, tracking OTD, quality, cost, and risk metrics.

• Mitigate single-source/long-lead risks and lead supplier Corrective Action Requests (CARs) as needed.

• Partner remotely with Melbourne engineering, quality, and program teams to align specs and vendor lead times.

• Maintain accurate real-time order tracking in ERP to provide program visibility.

• Must have experience with high volume buying of optical components and experience in a production environment with build to print products.
