POSITION SUMMARY The Registered Nurse (RN) – Circulator is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care in the operating room, ensuring a safe, efficient, and sterile surgical environment. This role serves as the patient’s advocate throughout the perioperative process, monitoring safety, documentation, and communication between surgical team members to ensure optimal outcomes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the daily function and organization of the operating room in accordance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines. Provide direct and indirect patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures. Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications safely, and respond to any intraoperative or postoperative complications. Oversee patient positioning, site preparation, and adherence to procedural safety protocols. Ensure that patients' rights, dignity, privacy, and comfort are always maintained. Perform accounting procedures to prevent retained surgical items and ensure all instruments and supplies are accounted for. Confirm correct surgical site, side, and level in collaboration with the surgical team. Manage patient specimens according to facility guidelines. Implement infection control measures to prevent surgical site infections. Communicate patient status updates to appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care. Assist in overseeing patient care activities and ensuring the OR team operates efficiently. Foster a collaborative work environment by using problem-solving and conflict‑resolution skills. Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes. Act as a patient advocate, ensuring ethical, culturally competent, and age‑appropriate care. Accurately document all aspects of nursing care, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative observations. Maintain all required competencies, certifications, and continuing education. Participate in the performance appraisal process and ongoing professional development. Complete all required compliance training, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards. Maintain current RN certification REQUIRED Adhere to all regulatory standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control policies. Support training and mentorship for surgical team members to promote skill development and best practices. Positive attitude and a love for helping others! Prior experience in a fast‑paced medical office and electronic health records is preferred. Dependable transportation is required to travel to other offices as. Must be flexible when traveling to various locations as needed. Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation. Proficiency in handling ophthalmic surgical equipment, including phacoemulsification and laser systems. Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast‑paced surgical environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT Exerting up to twenty‑five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Have close visual acuity to perform an activity, including viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, interpretation, etc. Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills to complete essential tasks, including learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem‑solving, and timely decision‑making. Must be able to be stationary for prolonged periods. COGNITIVE REQUIREMENT Execute tasks independently. Learn and memorize tasks. Maintains concentration/focus on tasks. Perform tasks in a demanding environment requiring multi‑tasking and prioritizing work. Must be comfortable working and interacting with large groups of people daily.
