Accounting Supervisor

Chenango County is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join the Department of Social Services in Norwich, NY. Accounting Supervisor Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate fiscal operations for the Department of Social Services.
• Perform general accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Monitor account balances, financial transactions, and fund activity.
• Assist with departmental budget preparation and administration.
• Prepare and oversee financial, statistical, and administrative reports.
• Oversee departmental payroll operations.
• Help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial requirements.
• Develop and implement financial and administrative procedures.
• Supervise, train, and support clerical account-keeping staff.
• Provide financial information and guidance to departmental leadership.

Accounting Supervisor Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, public administration, or a closely related field plus 1 year of accounting/auditing experience , including at least 6 months of supervisory experience; OR
• Associate's degree in a related field plus 3 years of accounting/auditing experience , including at least 6 months of supervisory experience; OR
• An equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, AP/AR, auditing, or related accounting functions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Government, municipal, social services, nonprofit, or fund accounting experience is helpful but not required .

Accounting Supervisor Compensation & Benefits:

• $65,000 starting annual salary.
