As a Summer Day Camp Coordinator at the Y, you’re providing a safe, welcoming environment for kids in your community to reach their full potential. Our summer starting rate is $13.00 per hour with the potential to receive more based on responsibilities. This is a variable‑hour, seasonal position scheduled to work 40 hours per week for the duration of summer programming (typically 12 weeks) and is not eligible for full‑time employee benefits. Duties & Responsibilities Coordinators are responsible for staff oversight, as well as planning and implementing all activities in the childcare program at a designated day camp site. Supervise staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, including assisting in applying sunscreen and ensuring children stay hydrated. Lead games and activities. Maintain minimum requirements for state and YMCA standards. Know where all group members are at all times. Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines daily as part of the goals set in conjunction with the YMCA director. Maintain a 1:12 staff‑to‑child ratio. Report all injuries and incidents to the director. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings to help plan activities. Develop positive relationships with parents and staff. Display YMCA core values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility). Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours. Oversee the summer feeding program for the summer day camp. Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers. Establish a positive relationship with each child. Requirements Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually (training provided by the Y if needed). Must complete all required Redwoods Trainings within 30 days of hire and renew annually. Must have an interest in, and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy. Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Must have a high school diploma or GED and have 12 hours of elementary education or child development coursework or at least 2 years of experience working with children.
