This employer participates in E‑Verify. Summary The Equipment Operator position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. The role involves the safe and efficient operation of equipment such as front‑end loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, compactors and other machines. Work is performed per supervisor’s instruction, free from direct supervision except for more complicated jobs. Operators are responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and securing all equipment. Essential Functions Operate heavy equipment used in earth moving operations to build, level and excavate land surfaces. Use equipment to level roads and/or working areas, ensure proper drainage, and develop proper grade. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks. Maintain and submit daily records of equipment inspection. Fuel, oil and grease equipment daily. Change worn or broken teeth or cutting edges as needed. Use hand‑held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources. Operate equipment safely to minimize risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Clean heavy equipment as scheduled or required. Maintain equipment and advise supervisor of maintenance or repair requirements. Report any damage immediately to supervisor. Use equipment for its intended purpose with little or no assistance. Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored. Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site. Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Qualifications Education and/Experience (Minimum) A valid driver’s license. Proficiency in operating D‑6 Dozer, D‑8 Dozer, 245, 330, and 450 Excavators and equipment safety. Preferred High School Diploma or GED. MSHA certification. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of and ability to read and follow plans, specifications, sketches and grade/mapping control. Ability to maintain equipment and follow related procedures. Ability to see details at a distance and at close range. Ability to judge the distance between self and other objects. Effective written communication skills. Effective verbal communication skills. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Pushing/Pulling – 50–100 lbs (frequent). Working Conditions Exposure to inclement weather, extreme cold, extreme heat, wet/humid conditions. Noise and vibration. Atmospheric conditions such as dust or fumes. Moving mechanical parts, electric shock, high exposed places, radiant energy, explosives, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other risks.
