Position Overview
The LMSW is a mental health professional who reports directly to the Shelter Director of Social Services. This role organizes and oversees the work of case managers assigned to the team. All activities focus on rapid and effective engagement with shelter residents, connecting them to medical and psychiatric care, conducting assessments, preparing housing referral packets, and supporting their transition to appropriate housing.

Responsibilities

• Assists Program Directors and case management staff in delivering quality clinical and crisis management services within the shelter, primarily through consultation and training.
• Provides guidance to staff on complex clinical cases, including high-risk consumers such as those with co-morbid medical conditions or significant psychiatric concerns.
• Models best practices in trauma-informed, recovery-oriented engagement for the team.
• Organizes and facilitates internal case conferences as needed, collaborating with staff to develop and implement person-centered, evidence-based interventions to address clinical or compliance issues, assess and motivate consumers, and plan for housing placement.
• Provides staff training as needed (e.g., independent living skills and wellness activities) and may co-facilitate groups as a training method.
• Oversees the clinical quality and integrity of independent living planning and provides staff training in these areas.
• Actively participates in the Supported Housing Task Force, attending meetings and contributing to the implementation of initiatives developed by the committee.
• Organizes information for the Mayor’s Safety Hub and participates in risk-related discussions with shelter leadership, DHS analysts, and other stakeholders as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensed Social Worker. At least one year of experience providing direct services to individuals with mental disabilities (i.e., persons properly diagnosed as suffering from mental illness, alcoholism, or substance abuse). Maintenance of licensure and current registration is a condition of employment.
