Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Performs personal, vocational, educational, or other counseling or training at the individual or group level at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX . May assist in the coordination and management of the program. Work is performed under general supervision with performance based on individual counseling effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

As a mental health Counselor , you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing compassionate mental health support to patients. Working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, you'll help patients with the services and resources they need to support their mental health and overall well-being.

• Mental Health Screening & Assessment: Conduct intake and follow-up mental health screenings to identify patient needs and help guide appropriate services and interventions.
• Care Coordination & Case Management: Serve as a resource and advocate for assigned patients, connecting them with facility-based programs, psychiatric services, and appropriate community or reentry resources.
• Wellness & Supportive Engagement: Build positive therapeutic relationships through routine wellness checks, supportive interactions, and proactive engagement with patients.
• Crisis Intervention: Provide calm, responsive support during mental health crises and collaborate with the care team to help promote patient safety and stabilization.
• Clinical Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation while supporting established clinical, organizational, and regulatory requirements.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with psychiatric providers, nurses, custody staff, program coordinators, and other professionals to provide coordinated, patient-centered mental health services.
• Operational Support: Remain flexible and responsive to patient and program needs, assisting with additional responsibilities that support the overall delivery of quality mental health services.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in a related area. Additional education in a related area may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of jail-based mental health service standards, suicide prevention practices, and crisis intervention principles.
• Experience in the coordination of care and making appropriate referrals to facility programs, treatment services, and community resources.
