Department Summary

The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares a multi-culturally competent counselor and a change agent who promotes wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities locally and worldwide. The Program offers two CACREP-accredited master’s programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research, our students undergo an authentic experiential and evidence-based training. Graduates of the UNTD Counseling program are dedicated leaders and advocates for diversity in the communities they serve.

Position Overview

UNT Dallas is bridging the gap between education and workforce readiness through our innovative Classroom to Career initiative. This initiative integrates experiential learning—such as internships, service learning, and project-based collaborations with industry partners—into every student’s academic journey. By emphasizing high-impact practices, we prepare students with both disciplinary expertise and the essential skills employers value most: communication, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership. Our graduates don’t just earn degrees; they launch purposeful, career-ready futures. We seek faculty across all disciplines who are eager to contribute to this transformative, campus-wide initiative actively.

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer in the Counseling Program. This position is a 9-month, non-renewable appointment with expectations of a four-course teaching load each semester. The initial one-year appointment begins September 1, 2026. The position includes teaching 12 hours (four courses) in the fall and spring semesters. Additional expectations include student advisement and participation in department meetings and school meetings.

The candidate selected for this position is intended to provide graduate students with valuable professional, administrative, service, and research experiences that complement their academic studies and strengthen career readiness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP (The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited program or equivalent program.
  • Eligible for License in Professional Counseling in the State of Texas (LPC).Proven teaching excellence in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling.
  • Documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by education, teaching, clinical experience and professional affiliations (such as American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Academic experience working n a campus with culturally diverse students, staff and faculty.
  • Experience in working with industry-standard tools and programming languages for analytics.
  • Strong instructional design and course development skills.
  • Effective use of learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Ability to facilitate engaging online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mentor diverse student populations.
  • Proficient use of educational technology and digital learning tools.
  • Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain flexible schedule to meet academic demands.
  • Ability to integrate real-world human services experience into classroom instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated clinical competence in counseling supervision
  • Professional school counseling experience
  • Familiarity with CACREP standards
  • Experience with collaborative grant development
  • Counseling skills; knowledge of statistics, diversity, and addiction

Job Duties

  • Teaching four undergraduate courses per semester.
  • Engaging students in learning inside and outside the classroom including service learning or experiential learning, practicum, and active research.
  • Coordinating opportunities for students with community partners.
  • Advising HSML majors on their degree plans.
  • Participating in activities such as student recruitment, program assessment, program development.

  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
