Safety Supervisor (3rd Shift) Requisition ID: 1459 | Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $58,295.00 annually Title: Safety Supervisor Purpose This position is responsible for improving workplace safety by identifying and removing hazards and instructing employees on applicable safety procedures set by Davidson Transit Organization (DTO) management as well as local, state, and federal authorities. The incumbent will investigate events, document follow‑up, reconcile claims, and coordinate safety trainings and mock drills with DTO and MTA departments. The role requires liaison with union personnel, government agencies, and the public to enforce safety regulations for DTO employees, customers, and visitors. Reports to Safety Manager Safety Core Functions Conduct routine operator route checks to identify and report safety behaviors, collaborating with Operations Management and Training for pre‑ and post‑incident training needs. Perform walkthroughs of maintenance operations at DTO properties and recommend improvements to Vehicle and Facilities Maintenance management. Investigate and respond to passenger safety complaints, including injury or property claims, using surveillance systems as needed. Represent DTO in court proceedings when required. Coordinate employee and front‑line staff trainings and safety drills with DTO Security and external Metro departments, ensuring compliance with OSHA, TOSHA, DOT, and other regulations. Prepare statistical reports for MTA/RTA board reporting and research agencies; recommend safety program improvements and corrective actions for violations. Safety Support Functions Maintain relevant databases such as the National Transit Database and American Bus Benchmarking Group. Review and update safety policies and memoranda to align with local, state, and federal standards. Act as DTO Safety Manager delegate at the Office of Emergency Management during city‑wide declarations or emergency situations. Assist Operations Supervisors in the field during inclement weather situations. Other Duties The principal duties are described above, but the incumbent may be required to perform other job‑related duties as requested by management. Physical Requirements Physical activity includes sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, walking, speaking, and listening, and requires ability to use office equipment and vehicle safety systems. Sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods; lifting and reaching. Operating office equipment (telephone, computer, printer, copy machine, calculator, facsimile, camera). Other Requirements Conduct investigation reports and perform under stressful conditions. Read schedules, maps, route guides, and detour sheets. Make clear decisions during stressful situations. Operate company vehicles, follow traffic laws, and obey safety rules. Maintain effective working relationships at all employee levels. Follow detailed written or verbal instructions. Adhere to assigned schedule and additional hours as needed for special events or holidays. Perform arithmetic calculations and compose written documents. Work in all weather conditions and respond to emergency situations. Speak clearly and distinctly. Work with minimal supervision. Meet required deadlines. Maintain confidentiality. Recommended Preparation for Employment Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, general health and safety oversight experience, and a background in safety oversight, accident investigation, inventory control, or risk assessment are preferred. Minimum two years of supervisory experience and familiarity with union work environments are also preferred. Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License before or shortly after hiring. No disciplinary actions in the past two years. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Continuing education in OSHA, TOSHA, and DOT compliance is preferred. The candidate must acquire working knowledge of all transit routes, safety procedures, standard operating procedures, and labor contract regulations, and complete OSHA and Accident Investigation training within a reasonable timeframe.
