The Rome City School District is seeking a student-centered Special Education Resource Teacher to support elementary school students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will provide foundational academic, social-emotional, and organizational support to young learners while collaborating closely with general education teachers to foster an inclusive, engaging, and accessible learning environment that promotes creativity, independence, and foundational skill development for all learners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide resource room and special education support services to elementary students in accordance with IEP goals and New York State regulations.
• Collaborate with general education classroom teachers to deliver differentiated instruction in core subject areas (literacy, mathematics, science, social studies) aligned with NYS Learning Standards.
• Adapt and modify instructional materials, classroom assignments, and assessments to support foundational learning across inclusive settings.
• Support students in developing early literacy and numeracy skills, executive functioning, self-regulation, organization, and positive social-emotional habits.
• Implement accommodations, modifications, visual schedules, and assistive technologies to ensure meaningful participation and full curriculum access.
• Create a structured, nurturing learning environment that promotes active engagement, confidence, independence, and positive behavior strategies.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers (speech, OT, PT), school psychologists, and support staff to ensure student success.
• Monitor and document student growth through systematic data collection, progress monitoring, formative assessments, and IEP goal tracking.
• Maintain strong, collaborative communication with families, case managers, and elementary school personnel to support holistic student achievement.
• Participate in IEP team meetings, Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Must hold a valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (All Grades).
• Experience providing resource room, academic intervention, or specialized instruction at the elementary level preferred.
• Knowledge of early literacy/numeracy strategies, differentiated instruction, IEP implementation, positive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS), and developmental support.
• Strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills suited for young learners.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and nurturing learning environment.
