Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations and/or Operations Supervisor, the Security Guard individually and/or in a team provides a secure environment for clients/residents and staff. The Security Guard will be an active listener and provide high quality customer service and respond by exhibiting cross-cultural awareness with the ability to promote and contribute to an equitable and inclusive anti-racist organizational culture and environment.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Program/Facilities

1. Acts as Fire Safety Guard / Fire Safety Coordinator and carries out all fire safety policies and procedures in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.

1. Ensures all building emergency exits and walkways are unobstructed and secure.

1. Performs building security operations and front-desk duties including but not limited to:

1. Monitors facility keys and access.

1. Monitors building CCTV and fire alarm /security panel.

1. Communicates with local fire and police departments as needed.

1. Performs building security tours.

1. Answers phones.

1. Assists in mail distribution to clients according to program policy.

1. Screens visitors based on Urban Pathways policies and procedures.

1. Assists in monitoring resident behavior and well-being including client check-in procedures, crisis intervention de-escalation.

1. Assists in monitoring resident/client medication as required.

1. Ensures medication delivery is properly documented in appropriate log booking the absence of social service staff.

1. Performs emergency response including CPR defibrillator, AED and first aid as needed.

1. Assists in maintaining safe and non-slippery walkways including but not limited to spreading of salt, deicer and placement of walk-off mats at building entrances, in inclement weather in the absence of maintenance personnel.

Administrative

1. Maintains ongoing communication with preceding and following shifts, including clinical staff.

1. Documents all incidents and unusual occurrences in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.

1. Documents client activities and incident reporting in client database system(s).

Community Relations

1. Represents Urban Pathways and responds to inquiries as needed.

Communication

1. Communicates verbally and in writing in a professional manner at all times.

1. Attends staff meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions, as required.

1. Responds to all communications including telephone, email and other oral and written inquiries in a timely manner.

Performs all other duties as assigned and as required.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum one to two years of security experience preferred.
• Experience with people experiencing homeless, mental illness and/or substance abuse population preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, etc.) a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Foreign languages a plus.

Other

• Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings; and to remain on post until relieved.

Licenses

• Fire safety certification or ability to obtain such certification within six months of employment.
• CPR, First Aid, AED - ability to obtain within three months.
• Security License required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift (up to 50 lbs.), carry, climb stairs and ladders, type, write, read, speak, see, and hear.
