Position Summary \n"Become part of a highly specialized team dedicated to diagnosing and treating complex cardiac arrhythmias. As a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) at Duke University Hospital's Electrophysiology Lab, you will collaborate closely with electrophysiologists, nurses, anesthesiology providers, and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver exceptional care to patients undergoing advanced cardiac procedures.
\nIn this role, you will rotate through scrubbing, circulating, and recording responsibilities while utilizing state-of-the-art electrophysiology technology to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. \nProcedures You Will Support

- Electrophysiology (EP) studies \n
- Cardiac ablations \n
- EP device implantation (pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices) \n
- Tilt-table testing \n

\n Duties & Responsibilities \nClinical Care & Procedure Support
\n- \n
- Perform all responsibilities of a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist I. \n
- Provide, plan, and document patient care in accordance with physician orders and established policies. \n
- Use clinical judgment to support providers based on patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment response. \n
- Prioritize workflow to ensure timely, efficient care in high‑volume procedural settings. \n
- Support physicians during invasive cardiovascular procedures using advanced clinical competencies. \n
Equipment & Room Preparation
\n- \n
- Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain invasive lab equipment and devices. \n
- Identify equipment issues and initiate service or repair requests. \n
- Prepare procedure rooms and ensure adequate supplies to support daily case volume. \n
- Follow The Joint Commission standards for storing and managing patient care products. \n
Data & Documentation

- Accurately document, retrieve, and verify clinical data for patient records. \n
- Maintain required competencies and participate in continuous learning and development. \n
- Support training and onboarding of peers and learners. \n
- Engage in performance improvement initiatives and uphold departmental, regulatory, and patient safety standards. \n
Team Collaboration

- Serve as a resource for advanced clinical skills. \n
- Partner with the care team to individualize patient care plans. \n
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, providers, and colleagues. \n
- \n
- Strong proficiency in cardiovascular technology techniques and clinical application. \n
- Ability to identify procedural issues and recommend appropriate solutions. \n
- Knowledge of cardiovascular equipment, safety practices, and infection control. \n
- Ability to perform and troubleshoot technical skills in a fast‑paced procedural environment. \n
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal and electronic formats. \n
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships with healthcare professionals. \n
- Capable of prolonged standing/walking and maintaining focus in high-acuity environments. \n
- Working knowledge of regulatory guidelines and accreditation requirements. \n
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software systems. \n
- Successful completion of pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing is required. \n
One of the following is required:
\n- \n
- Graduate of an associate or bachelor’s program in a health science field (e.g., cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, ultrasound), OR \n
- Graduate of an associate or bachelor’s program in an unrelated field PLUS completion of a certificate program in cardiovascular technology, radiology, ultrasound, or respiratory therapy. \n

Level II: Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist and completion of clinical ladder requirements.
\n- \n
- External hires must meet ladder criteria within one year. \n
\n - \n
Level III: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist and completion of clinical ladder requirements.
\n- \n
- External hires require approval from DUHS Cath & EP Lab Operations Leadership and must meet ladder criteria within one year. \n
\n
Level II
\n- \n
- One or more of the following (within 36 months of employment):\n
- \n
- RCIS, RCES, ARRT (R, RTR, CI, CV, or VI), or IBHRE certification \n
\n - Basic Life Support (BLS) – required \n
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 6 months (Adult Cath, Adult EP, Hybrid OR only) \n
- CVIS employees in role on or before Jan 1, 2016 may be exempt from certain requirements. \n
Level III
\n- \n
- One or more of the following (required):\n
- \n
- RCIS, RCES, ARRT (R, RTR, CI, CV, or VI), or IBHRE certification \n
