Digital Talk Producer

Iowa Public Radio is seeking a Digital Talk Producer to help grow our digital audience and maximize the impact of our talk show and podcast content. Based in the vibrant community of Iowa City, Iowa , this embedded team member will use their sharp news and cultural judgment to transform broadcast conversations into engaging digital media across multiple platforms. In this dynamic role, you will create compelling graphics, edit field visuals, and extend IPR’s reach to NPR and social media. You’ll also shape our newsletter portfolio as the writer of the popular Garden Variety newsletter and a contributor to Chatter , all while using data and audience testing to elevate our storytelling.

ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE : $42,000 - $55,803

SUMMARY:

The Digital Talk Producer at Iowa Public Radio grows the station's digital audience by transforming talk show and podcast content into multi-platform digital media. Working closely with the talk and digital teams, this role creates graphics, edits visuals, prepares daily website news copy, and serves as the writer for IPR's Garden Variety and Chatter newsletters. Additionally, the producer extends content to NPR and social media platforms, using audience data and regular performance analysis to optimize digital storytelling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least one year of experience as either an intern or full-time employee in a professional journalism or media organization;
• Experience working in multimedia and digital platforms and knowledge of content promotion strategies;
• Experience working with digital audio editing software;
• Familiarity with AP writing style and demonstrated skills in writing for print;
• Firm foundation in journalism ethics, news gathering and reporting techniques;
• Experience creating and optimizing content for search results; and
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• A valid state-issued driver’s license and reliable transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Production, Communications, English, or related field experience;
• Familiarity with a broad range of news and information topics;
• Direct experience in video or photojournalism, using visual media to tell a story;
• Experience building a personality and presence on at least one social media platform; and A love for the internet, storytelling, and serving an informed public.
