Job Summary

Oversee the day-to-today activities of the Housekeeping/Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This position also works the floor and is on the schedule every month.

Residents Rights
• Knows and respects patient rights.
• Ensures all protected health information is kept confidential.
• Reports all complaints made by patients to supervisor.
• Reports all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patient property.

Safety and Sanitation
• Follows established safety policies and procedures.
• Observes safety needs of patients as indicated in care plan.
• Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use.
• Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations

Housekeeping Supervisor Responsibilities

• Oversees the housekeeping/laundry staff.
• Partners with HR and Administrator in hiring, training, onboarding/offboarding & managing employee relations of department staff.
• Coordinates the cleaning/laundry schedule for department staff.
• Oversees the housekeeping department in the day-to-day cleaning of offices, handicap, visitor restrooms, activity rooms, kitchen, restrooms, service entrances, therapy rooms, facility entrances and exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, halls etc.
• Oversees the dusting, washing, and disinfecting of all fixtures, floors and walls, doors and ceilings,
• Oversees the scouring and polishing of water fountains, sinks, mirrors, glass panels in doors and partitions, brass, and movable stationary furnishings and fixtures.
• Oversees changing of slipcovers, scarves, doilies, etc. when soiled and arrangement of furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
• Oversees cleaning of ledges, shelves, vents, windows, windowsills, etc.
• Ensures removal and rehanging of curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning, when needed.
• Works jointly with maintenance staff to oversee cleaning of service floors, all patient rooms, baths, lounges, nurse stations, and offices.
• Performs emergency housekeeping/laundry duties
• Oversees terminal cleaning duties according to established procedures in patient rooms when patient has been discharged or transferred and prepares rooms for new occupants.
• Oversees cleaning duties in isolation units when patient is transferred according to established procedures.
• Oversees floor care throughout the facility.
• Oversees all laundry services in facility coordinating inventories of clothing and personal items brought in with new patients and marking with proper identification.
• Ensures housekeeping staff pick up soiled linen from each unit throughout shift.
• Ensures articles for clothing are prepared for washing by overseeing the unbuttoning of clothing items, turning pockets inside out and unrolling sleeves; Sorting of soiled laundry into appropriate loads for washing etc.
• Ensures that standard washing procedures are followed by overseeing proper soap solution, bluing, and other chemicals to wash are in accordance with regulations.
• Maintains order in the supply room by cleaning lockers and equipment and ordering/arranging supplies.
• Maintains equipment used in performing duties; Cleans washers and dryers, dryer lint filters, and soap dispensers at end or near end of shift; Brushes spillage from floor into drain.
• Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read and understand directions.

Experience

• Prior experience in commercial cleaning environment is ideal.
• Prior supervisor experience a plus

Physical Demands

Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, moving, and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds; exerting considerable force frequently, and/or intermediate force constantly to move objects and patients. Reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, visual near acuity, bending, stooping and walking.

Qualifications:

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixing of cleaning compounds, liquids, disinfecting solutions, etc.
• Prior housekeeping experience
• Skilled Nursing Facility Experience (Preferred)
