Associate Biologist On-Call

We are seeking an Associate Biologist On-Call to provide flexible biological support across field, laboratory, and operational activities. This role is well suited to an early-career professional who enjoys varied work, can respond to changing priorities, and is committed to producing accurate, reliable results. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and may be required to accept short-notice assignments, including occasional evenings, weekends, or public holidays. Duties may include assisting with biological surveys, environmental monitoring, specimen and sample collection, preparation and processing of materials, data entry, quality checks, and maintenance of accurate technical records. You may support field equipment preparation, follow approved sampling and health and safety procedures, identify or document biological specimens, and contribute to reports, databases, and routine laboratory activities. The role also involves maintaining clean and organised work areas, handling equipment responsibly, communicating findings clearly, and escalating unexpected results, hazards, or operational issues to the appropriate supervisor. Applicants should have a degree, diploma, or equivalent practical training in biology, ecology, environmental science, zoology, microbiology, or a related discipline. Practical experience in fieldwork, laboratory procedures, biological identification, sample management, or environmental monitoring is desirable. You will need strong attention to detail, sound organisational skills, and the ability to work independently while following established methods and instructions. A dependable, adaptable approach and willingness to work outdoors or in laboratory environments are essential. The role may involve travel, manual handling, uneven terrain, and exposure to variable weather conditions, so applicants must be able to meet the relevant physical and safety requirements. A current driving licence, first-aid training, or experience with specialist recording and analytical tools may be advantageous. EWI Recruitment
