Bus Driver Nonexempt

Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Equivalent to completion of high school - preferred.

Clear and valid Texas driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.

Must be 18 years of age Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam Ability to complete required bus driver safety training Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses Ability to manage student behavior Ability to communicate effectively with others Ability to operate bus

1. Operate vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

2. Identify, by name, students riding the route.

3. Drive all routes as designated/assigned.

4. Identify and reports, to supervisor, students involved in disciplinary situations.

5. Provide office personnel with reports as requested in a timely manner.

6. Completes written reports and discusses with supervisor all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries.

7. Regularly complete vehicle maintenance/repair request.

8. Attend in-service training and mandatory monthly safety meetings.

9. Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and passenger rules and regulations. Supervise students while boarding and exiting the bus as well as assist students crossing street as needed.

10. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safe transportation of students.

11. Report mechanical problems and complete required work orders as needed.

12. Ability to be on time to work and keep route on regular timely schedule.

13. Responsibility to clock in and out as required by district policy.

14. Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other drivers.

15. Perform emergency evacuation of students on bus when the situations warrants.

16. Complete and maintain accurate, up-to-date, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, and number of passengers transported.

Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching

In event of emergency, ability to occasionally lift and/or move students as needed.

Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; noise; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
