Position Overview The Sheet Metal Foreman / Lead Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and repair of commercial HVAC sheet metal systems. This role provides hands‑on leadership, technical expertise, and ensures work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Qualifications & Responsibilities Lead Mechanic Requirements Minimum 5 years of experience in the sheet metal trade Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and P&ID schematics Ability to work independently and collaboratively Provide hands‑on leadership to field crews from layout through final installation Direct and support Lead Mechanics, Mechanics, and Apprentices Install a wide range of commercial HVAC sheet metal systems according to project specifications and drawings Foreman Requirements Minimum 8 years of experience in the sheet metal field Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and P&ID schematics Excellent communication and documentation skills Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal for commercial HVAC systems Schedule and coordinate onsite subcontractors Ensure high‑quality work, safety, and customer satisfaction at all project stages Build positive relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and crew members Direct and supervise Apprentices, Mechanics, Lead Mechanics, and Journeymen Perform additional duties as assigned General Candidate Requirements Must have essential hand tools for the trade Dependable team player with strong work ethic Ability to work without direct supervision Ability to pass a post‑offer drug screen and applicable background checks (DMV, criminal history) Southern Air offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including: Health Insurance — starts Day 1 Includes company HSA contributions Dental and Vision insurance Short‑Term and Long‑Term Disability Life Insurance and AD&D Supplemental & Dependent Life options Employee Assistance Program Retirement & Ownership 401(k) with company match ESOP – Employee Stock Ownership Plan Paid Time Off (PTO) Company vehicle with gas card (take‑home privilege) Compensation Competitive wage range: $35 and up per hour , based on experience and position Skills & Abilities Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills Demonstrate safe and proper use of tools and equipment Communicate effectively with teams and clients Maintain professionalism under changing field conditions Ability to work independently in commercial environments Physical Demands & Working Conditions Ability to ride or drive for extended periods as required Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions Frequent use of hands for tools and equipment Regular standing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds Exposure to typical construction materials and chemicals; must follow safety data guidelines Equal Opportunity Employer All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
