Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration Mechanic

Location: Westfield, MA 01085

Step into a role where every system check protects product quality and every repair keeps operations moving. As an Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration Mechanic, you’ll be the go-to expert ensuring our ammonia (NH3) refrigeration assets perform safely, efficiently, and reliably.

A day in the life

You start with scheduled inspections, reviewing trends and logs from overnight. A vibration alert draws your attention—you diagnose the issue, source parts, and execute a safe, timely repair. Later, you huddle with teammates to fine-tune setpoints for better efficiency, capture detailed notes for maintenance history, and spend time coaching a junior tech through interpreting a new schematic. When an urgent call comes in, you respond calmly and confidently, restoring service and documenting corrective actions.

What you’ll handle

• Conduct preventive maintenance and thorough inspections on ammonia refrigeration equipment and subsystems.
• Identify root causes of faults, perform diagnostics, and carry out effective, permanent repairs.
• Uphold safety procedures and applicable codes/standards at all times.
• Record work orders, parts used, test results, and repair notes with precision.
• Partner with peers to improve uptime, energy performance, and overall reliability.
• Respond to urgent service needs and after-hours calls when required.
• Support the development of junior technicians through training and mentorship.

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or refrigeration certification preferred.
• Hands-on experience working with ammonia (NH3) industrial refrigeration systems.
• Solid grounding in HVAC fundamentals and rigorous safety practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, P&IDs, and wiring schematics.
• Detail-oriented troubleshooting mindset and strong analytical skills.
• Clear communicator and dependable team contributor.
• EPA refrigerant certification a plus.
