This Phlebotomist II role focuses on providing high-quality specimen collection and patient care in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment. You greet patients, perform blood draws and other specimen collections, prepare and process samples according to strict protocols, and ensure accurate documentation and data entry. The position combines hands-on phlebotomy, customer service, and basic laboratory processing to support reliable test results and a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients as they arrive at the lab and provide a welcoming, professional experience.
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, including blood, urine, and fecal samples.
• Perform blood draws using straight needles, butterfly needles, and syringes, demonstrating proper phlebotomy techniques and safety practices.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocol requirements.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes to ensure accurate test ordering and specimen identification.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and follow all procedures necessary to maintain specimen integrity.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, and accurately label them.
• Follow different specimen handling and transport procedures as outlined by specific protocols.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and participate in annual department trainings.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks to support a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
• Update patient information and ensure accurate data entry in laboratory and billing systems.
• Prep collection sites and ensure proper infection control and safety standards are followed.
• Handle insurance and billing-related tasks associated with specimen collection and processing.
• Process samples in the laboratory, including basic specimen handling and preparation steps.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries in a clear and professional manner.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, maintaining a patient-first mindset in all interactions.
• Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance and timely completion of assigned duties.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues, take initiative, and contribute to a positive, hardworking team environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of phlebotomy and venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Proficiency in blood drawing techniques using straight needles, butterfly needles, and syringes.
• Hands-on experience with specimen collection, including blood, urine, and fecal samples.
• Ability to perform venipuncture and blood culture collection following established protocols.
• Strong customer service skills, with previous experience in any customer-facing setting.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks.
• Ability to accurately match requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test orders.
• Attention to detail in labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and storing specimens.
• Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations and willingness to comply with all safety and regulatory requirements.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Demonstrated reliability and positive attendance record.
• Ability to take feedback well and eagerness to learn new procedures and processes.
• Patient-first mindset, consistently prioritizing patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.

Work Environment

This role is based at a clinical health clinic located in Clackamas, Oregon, with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You work in a busy, patient-facing laboratory setting that requires frequent interaction with patients, clinical staff, and other laboratory professionals. The environment involves routine use of phlebotomy equipment such as straight needles, butterfly needles, syringes, collection tubes, and centrifuges, as well as computer systems for requisitions, results, and Microsoft Office applications. Safety and regulatory compliance are central, with adherence to OSHA and DEP guidelines and participation in annual department trainings. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.11/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
