Registered Nurse - Psych About the Position Location: Lawton, OK Start Date: 04-13-2026 End Date: 07-13-2026 Contract Type: Travel Contract Shift Type: Night shift, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour nights; specific days scheduled by unit) Hours per Week: 36 Roles & Responsibilities Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for adults on the psychiatric unit Perform thorough mental health assessments and document findings clearly and timely Administer medications safely and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects Implement crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (psychiatrists, therapists, social workers) to develop and update care plans Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and coping strategies Maintain accurate, timely charting and comply with facility policies and regulatory standards Participate in shift handoffs and communicate changes in patient status effectively Qualifications Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible for Oklahoma licensure or compact RN as applicable) Prior experience in adult psychiatric nursing preferred; demonstrated comfort working on an APU Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required — ACLS or psychiatric certifications are a plus Comfort and competence with 12-hour night shift schedules Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and crisis-management skills Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team Education Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred Completion of required facility orientation and psychiatric unit training Knowledge & Skills Proficient in psychiatric assessment, suicide risk evaluation, and crisis intervention Experienced with medication administration and monitoring in behavioral health settings Skilled in de-escalation techniques and maintaining a therapeutic milieu Good documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records Ability to prioritize, triage, and manage complex patient needs during night shifts Strong interpersonal skills for patient and family education, and interdisciplinary collaboration Benefits Generous housing stipend and travel support to help you feel at home while on assignment Medical, dental & vision coverage so you can stay healthy and focused on patients Licensure assistance & reimbursement to keep your credentials current and portable Referral bonus program — share the love and grow your team Flexible scheduling options to help balance life and work (discuss details with the recruiter) A supportive team that values YOU — collaborative, respectful coworkers and leadership Paid time off to recharge between assignments and avoid burnout Professional development opportunities and access to continuing education resources Travel Perks: Explore Lawton, OK This is a travel contract in Lawton — enjoy proximity to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge for hiking, rock climbing (Mount Scott), lakes and scenic drives.
