UHC-Registered Nurse-7 North, Weekend Premium (Day)

Overview Welcome! This position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies clinical knowledge and independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated, to achieve quality patient care outcomes. The role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting and requires the novice level knowledge and skills to address patient care relevant to age-specific needs. Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. Experience: Less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse. Preferred Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN). Creates plan of care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnoses, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes. Recognizes patient safety concerns and utilizes appropriate resources. Provides education based on individual learning needs. Incorporates patient individuality and mutuality data in care delivery. Performs adequate patient assessment and documentation. Demonstrates teach-back method to evaluate education effectiveness. Utilizes Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in nursing care. Participates in organizational patient-centered care model. Documents problems and issues in the plan of care. Demonstrates growth in caring for more complex patients with consultation from experienced colleagues. Shows commitment to lifelong learning through self-reflection and inquiry. Maintains accountability for delegated nursing care. Recognizes scope of practice for all interprofessional team members. Participates in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection. Assesses impact of family dynamics on health and wellness. Integrates the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics to guide practice. Identifies discriminatory health care practices in culturally diverse populations. Individualizes care based on beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn of patients. For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through case-based learning, trainings, in-services, and competency validation. Physical Requirements The physical demands are representative of those required to perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Lift and assist with transfers using lift equipment and patient handling aids as indicated by patient profile and algorithms. Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying 40+ lbs. Normal visual acuity and normal hearing for assessment tasks. Working Environment Work is performed in conditions that may include irregular hours, biohazards, infectious diseases, working with the deceased, exposure to water, and electrical hazards from equipment. CAPE Program and Levels The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, reward quality practice, promote quality nursing, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses. To apply for the next level, the nurse must meet the requirements of the current level and the required years of nursing experience, degree, and certification. Nurses at levels 3–6 must complete five competencies annually to maintain their level. Levels include: Level 1: No experience required. All graduates with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level 1 with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher. Level 2: Meets Level 1 requirements; 1 year of experience. Level 3: Meets previous levels; 2 years of experience plus one specialty certification (certification preferred but not required). Required competencies include regularly serving as charge nurse and/or precepting. Level 4: BSN or higher (or ADN/Diploma with 5 years of experience); one specialty certification; required competencies include charge nurse/precepting and participation in QI and/or shared governance at the unit level. Level 5: MSN or higher with 4 years of experience, or BSN with 4 years plus health-related Master’s; one specialty certification; charge nurse/precepting and QI and shared governance at the organization level. Level 6: MSN or higher with 7+ years of experience; one specialty certification; charge nurse/precepting and QI and shared governance at the system level.
