Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Physician Assistant Or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

The Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will provide clinical and operative support to an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine physician/surgeon within the University of Florida Orthopaedics practice in Ocala, Florida. The position will primarily involve patient care in the outpatient clinic and first-assistant responsibilities in the operating room, Monday through Friday.

In the clinic setting, the incumbent will evaluate and manage pediatric and adult patients of all ages with sports medicine and Orthopaedic conditions and injuries. Clinical responsibilities will include evaluation of new, return, post-operative, and walk-in patients; obtaining medical histories and performing physical examinations; developing and implementing treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician; interpreting and reviewing diagnostic imaging; performing appropriate office-based procedures; documenting patient encounters; prescribing medications as permitted by licensure and clinical privileges; providing patient education; and coordinating ongoing patient care.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with Orthopaedic sports medicine physicians and surgeons, advanced practice providers, athletic trainers, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team. Additional clinic responsibilities will include responding to patient messages, completing electronic medical record in-basket tasks, communicating diagnostic and treatment information to patients, coordinating follow-up care, and assisting with other clinical activities as directed by the supervising physician.

The incumbent will also provide first-assistant support to the Orthopaedic surgeon in the operating room. Operative responsibilities may include assisting with surgical procedures, maintaining appropriate surgical technique and sterile practices, providing tissue retraction and exposure, assisting with hemostasis and wound closure, and performing other duties within the scope of practice, clinical privileges, and applicable law.

The position will be based at University of Florida Orthopaedics locations in Ocala, including the UF Orthopaedic clinic at the World Equestrian Center and UF Ocala Neighborhood Hospital. The position will primarily provide scheduled weekday coverage and will not include routine inpatient rounding or call responsibilities.

The incumbent will also have protected weekly administrative time to support clinical documentation, care coordination, quality improvement, education, program development, and other practice-related administrative responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Master's degree in nursing or Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Prior experience in Orthopedics, sports medicine, surgery, or a related clinical specialty is preferred but not required.

Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.

Additional Requirements: Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position will not operate vehicles.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida. BLS is required.

The incumbent must be eligible for clinical privileges appropriate to the position and demonstrate the ability to provide clinical care to pediatric and adult patients across a broad range of sports medicine and Orthopedic conditions. The incumbent must be able to function effectively in both outpatient clinic and operating room environments and work collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, athletic trainers, advanced practice providers, and other members of the health care team.
