Middle School Nurse

The Pleasant Hope R-VI School District is currently accepting applications for a Middle School Nurse for the 2026-2027 year. Fingerprint and satisfactory background check required.

Position: School Nurse

Qualifications:

• A valid state license to practice as a registered nurse.
• Public School Nurse certification, or any other certification required by the state.
• Two years of experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school district.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to: Building Principals

Terms of Employment: 2026-2027 School year FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary: The nurse is responsible for providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student, by minimizing absence due to illness, and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district school.

Position Responsibilities:

• The nurse shall conduct school health services including physical examinations, immunizations, and tests for hearing and vision.
• The nurse shall assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
• The nurse shall report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
• The nurse shall maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
• The nurse shall observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
• The nurse shall assume authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
• The nurse shall visit student homes, when necessary.
• The nurse shall participate with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.
• The nurse shall contact homes of children referred by principals.
• The nurse shall advise on modifications of the educational programs that are necessary to meet the health needs of individual students.
• The nurse shall prepare and submit reports for the superintendent and the State Board of Health.
• The nurse shall authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
• The nurse shall advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects.
• The nurse shall assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in the school.
• The nurse shall attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum.
• The nurse shall participate in in-service training programs.
• Should be in sufficient health to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by administrator.
