Senior Project Engineer

Job Overview:The Vessel Senior Project Engineer (Sr. PE) is an experienced project engineering professional who is responsible for applying their existing knowledge in Marine Operations and Pipeline Installation to serve as a Pipelay Lead for vessels, bids and projects. The Sr. PE functionally reports to the vessel Marine Operations Manager, but works within project and bid teams as assigned. The Sr. PE interfaces with the Project Installation Managers, Supply Chain Managers, Project Engineering Managers and other discipline leads to drive continual improvement through the implementation of Lessons Learned and ensure that the pipelay scope is planned and executed in alignment with the vessel capabilities and limitations.This role is an office-based position, however periodic on-site field support (Construction/ Supplier/ Mobilization sites and onboard the vessel) is required to properly execute the job duties. Essential Qualifications and Education:Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or project management5-8 years of engineering discipline experience with a major contractor or consultant in an office, primarily performing detail engineeringGood knowledge of discipline design techniques, analysis methods, and general workflowPreferably a registered professional engineer or member of a professional engineering society#LI-CA1Key Tasks and Responsibilities:The Sr. PE shall have a well-rounded and deep understanding of offshore pipelay and pipe production operations (Welding, NDT, Field Joint Coating), installation analysis, subsea structure designs, rigging practices, and the demonstrated project engineering capability to serve as a scope lead for a smaller team of approximately 2-5 other Project EngineersThe individual shall be comfortable with guiding and teaching junior engineers and have experience in coordinating and guiding the works of others to deliver the project scope on time and under budgetThe Sr. PE shall be able to operate independently with minimal guidance from the SPDT Marine Operations Director on a day-to-day basis but will maintain regular communications and collaboration to align schedule and execution methodologyThe Sr. PE is responsible for overall readiness and execution of the scope assigned, ensure that all Lessons Learned are implemented on the bid/project as applicable, shall understand and be accountable for delegated scope budgets, provide inputs into the schedule and maintain overall execution awareness, and ensure the offshore performance targets are achievedThe Sr. PE is expected to be a Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (QHSES) Leader for the JLV Amazon team and reinforce this mindset for the scope execution across all team membersCoordinate and review inputs from the various Engineering disciplines, functional departments, and sub-contractors contributing to the Engineering portion of a projectCoordinate and ensure the generation of deliverables, reports, and procedures requiredSupport management of the Engineering portion of the project as directed Use expertise and project experience to solve complex problems by identifying innovative solutions Manage time to meet objectives; forecast and plan resource requirements Assist the Project Engineering Manager in planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling small projects by establishing policies, procedures, systems, and requirementsAct as a liaison between the Customer and Project Engineering Manager and Engineering Team, including third-party agencies and subcontractorsAssist in the preparation and implementation of the Engineering Project Execution Plan (PEP)Assist in the preparation of the work-sharing Interface Plan & Scope Split MatrixEnsure all scopes of work are addressed, handover points are understood and agreed upon, and that there are no scope gaps or overlaps between the work-sharing offices and any subcontractorsReview the Project Plan along with the project planner and prepare subcontract scope packages for any work that is required to be subcontractedAttend Engineering Project Readiness reviews as needed Coordinate and become familiar with all inputs and changes to the Engineering Project Plan, the scope of work, drawings, and specificationsFacilitate logging and evaluating impacts of changes in the Desk Top Change Management System (DTCMS)Review any scope of work documents produced by the respective functional departments and identify changes impacting Engineering, update the Engineering Scope of Work documents as required/agreed, and assist in the preparation of change ordersCoordinate information between Engineering and other functions (such as Fabrication, Marine, etc.) to ensure timely receipt and delivery of necessary design inputsEnsure that registers of all documents received by Engineering as well as sent are maintained and updated by Document Control, inclusive of timely distribution to all concerned personnel, departments, other entities, and subcontractor(s) as necessaryDocument substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to the Engineering Project ManagerFacilitate the development and monitor closeout of technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and maintain preferred McDermott procedures, specifications, standards, practices, and operational requirementCoordinate and progress site queries related to subcontracted worksReview project schedule and fabrication schedule about construction sequence, milestones, and engineering scope, checking for alignmentAttend Weekly Progress Meetings (internal as well as with Customers) and prepare the Minutes of MeetingsCoordinate and ensure that Engineering and associated Design work, including weight control information and necessary updates are carried out by the respective discipline personnel by the specifications and scheduleEnsure all procedures and calculations are submitted to the Customer for review and approval by the contractMonitor their approvals with the CustomerCoordinate with the Project Quality Manager to ensure that the Engineering work is being performed per the Quality plans and that all necessary inspections and certifications are available for the final documentation packageCoordinate with the Project Procurement Manager/Coordinator to ensure that specifications, TBEs, vendor data expediting, and vendor data approvals required to be provided by Engineering are delivered per schedule, resolving technical queries as requiredCoordinate with senior production engineers and offshore operations engineers frequently to understand the progress of work activities on the project, identifying constraints related to Engineering deliverables and facilitating solutionsKeep the Project Engineering Manager apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and workforce-relatedMonitor work in progress and compile weekly/monthly reports on the status of each activityGather and assemble inputs for actual, planning, and forecasting progress reports, including associated productivityMonitor KPI measurement results and alert Discipline Leads as necessary to take timely corrective action to avoid negative consequences to the projectParticipate in safety/operability/reliability studies and workshops as necessaryParticipate in 3D model reviews, as necessaryCoordinate and participate in Constructability reviews, as necessaryTravel as necessary to attend Customer and project meetings and to facilitate the resolution of Engineering interface issues, including traveling to other Engineering offices, Fabrication yards, and OffshoreAttend Technical Quality Audit reviews as necessaryFull timePosting Date: 2026-02-09
