Sanitation WorkerThis role focuses on maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation in a refrigerated food and beverage production facility that produces hummus and salsa. The sanitation worker primarily supports third shift operations and ensures that all processing areas and equipment meet strict hygiene and safety standards.ResponsibilitiesClean and sanitize items and surfaces in processing rooms, including walls, doors, ceilings, carts, tables, and drains.Remove any packaging materials or food items left in the production area to maintain a clean and organized workspace.Pre-rinse equipment and surfaces with water using a hose to remove food residue prior to deep cleaning.Apply soap and cleaning solutions using a mobile foaming unit to thoroughly cover items and surfaces.Scrub items using the appropriate color-coded brushes to ensure proper sanitation and adherence to cleaning protocols.Rinse away all soap and cleaning solution residue using a water hose to prepare items for inspection.Inspect cleaned items and areas to verify cleanliness and re-clean as necessary to meet quality standards.Sanitize equipment and surfaces using a central sanitizer hose to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.Perform general janitorial duties such as mopping floors, cleaning drains, and maintaining overall facility cleanliness.Conduct inspection and environmental service tasks to support a safe and hygienic production environment.Assist with basic mechanical and machine operating tasks related to sanitation, including weight checks when required.Follow all safety, hygiene, and PPE requirements, including proper use of lab coats, hair nets, beard nets, and other protective equipment.Work scheduled third shift hours and support production needs, including mandatory Saturday work and potential Sunday shifts.Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality to support continuous production and sanitation operations.Essential SkillsExperience in a janitorial or housekeeping role, preferably in an industrial or production environment.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis as part of sanitation and cleaning duties.Ability to stand on feet for approximately 8 hours per shift while performing cleaning and inspection tasks.Comfort working in a cold, refrigerated food and beverage production environment.Capability to perform inspection, mopping, and general janitorial duties with attention to detail.Basic mechanical aptitude to handle machine operating tasks and weight checks related to sanitation processes.Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures, including pre-rinsing, foaming, scrubbing, rinsing, inspecting, and sanitizing.Willingness to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in food areas.Reliable transportation and consistent attendance to meet scheduled shift requirements.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in food and beverage production is beneficial but not required.Experience in any industrial environment, including automotive or manufacturing, is a plus.Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers is advantageous.Exposure to equipment that operates on pneumatics and hydraulics, including working with valves and hoses, is helpful.Ability to adapt to multiple shifts if needed, including early morning, afternoon, and overnight schedules.Why Work Here?Employees benefit from a comprehensive benefits package that supports health, financial well-being, and work-life balance. Employees work around industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers that operate on pneumatics and hydraulics, with valves and hoses commonly in use. Proper PPE is required in food areas, including full suiting with lab coat, hair net, beard net, and other protective gear as needed. Available shifts include 6:00am–2:30pm, 2:30pm–11:00pm, and 10:30pm–6:00am, with core hours for this role typically aligning with third shift (approximately 9:30pm–6:00am). The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with mandatory Saturday work and potential Sunday shifts based on production demands, providing a structured and consistent work environment.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
