This position is assigned to the 9‑step pay scale with steps 1–5 for hiring based on experience and education. Responsibilities Open, date‑stamp, sort and distribute mail. Check and review incoming and outgoing documents for completeness and accuracy. Assign general case categories and process documents per court rules. Assign docket numbers and record information as required in appropriate files. File court records chronologically, alphabetically, and numerically; retrieve and distribute files for court personnel, the public, and attorneys. Type notices, orders, decrees, correspondence, hearing and trial lists. Answer telephone, prepare copies, and assist the public. Prepare summonses, notices, warrants, subpoenas, compute service dates, affix court seal, and prepare copies. Operate electronic recording machine; serve as courtroom clerk as required; prepare juror lists and related work on summonses, appearances, and juror payment. Schedule trials, hearings, continuances and other matters. Answer inquiries and furnish information by reviewing court records. Perform bookkeeping functions including receipt and disbursement of revenues, journal maintenance, bank reconciliation and preparation of financial reports. Sign court documents as required in the absence of the clerk. Perform limited supervision of up to one full‑time lower‑level court operations specialist, assigning work, responding to questions, and providing limited training. Perform related work as required. Qualifications High school graduation and five years of court clerical experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities and skills listed below. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of court procedures, policies, legal documents, laws and related factors. Considerable knowledge of court organization, operations and functions; effective and efficient office practices and procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports. Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a subordinate employee. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Skill in operating a computer, typewriter and other standard office equipment.
