Notes

Full-time, 36 hours/week (three 12-hour shifts), including every other weekend and holiday. Assesses patients' respiratory care needs based on multiple data sources. Plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates treatment modalities to meet patient needs. Ensures optimal patient and family experience through excellent customer interaction. NICU experience preferred.

Job Duties

• Performs and documents comprehensive patient assessments.
• Establishes and updates appropriate care plans.
• Communicates effectively with the patient care team.
• Correctly performs and documents therapeutic modalities including:
• Aerosolized medications
• Secretion management
• Pulmonary volume expansion
• Oxygen therapy
• Routine care and maintenance of artificial airways
• Initiates and manages conventional and high-frequency mechanical ventilation per protocol.
• Provides age-specific patient and family education for disease management.
• Assists with intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
• Manages acute airway needs in emergent situations.
• Sets up and manages non-invasive monitoring (ETCO2, pulse oximetry).
• Assists with discharge planning for patients requiring respiratory DME when care management is unavailable.
• Adheres to all regulatory, safety, institutional, and national care standards.
• Collects arterial blood gases and processes samples using point-of-care analyzers.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per organizational policies and HIPAA requirements.
• Serves as Shift Coordinator (charge) when designated, after one year of employment.
• Assists medical teams with:
• Fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures
• Placement of invasive monitoring lines
• Hemodynamic measurement and calculation
• Functions as a preceptor for orientees and clinical students.

Work Environment

Requirements

• NICU experience required.

• PA License, BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

• Therapist autonomy; protocol-driven care.

• Graduate of a specialty training program (required).

• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (AHA)

  • NBRC Member

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT NBRC)

  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification
