The Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking a Veteran Suicide Prevention Coordinator to advance Oregon's veteran suicide prevention efforts through strategic partnerships, evidence-based programming, and grant administration. This is an opportunity to collaborate and work alongside federal, state, Tribal, county, and community partners to strengthen systems of care and improve outcomes for service members, veterans and their families.

The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs has one (1) full-time opportunity available for a Program Analyst 3 (Veterans Suicide Prevention Coordinator) located at ODVA Headquarters in Salem, Oregon.

What you will do!
As ODVA’s Veteran Suicide Prevention Coordinator, you will lead ODVA’s statewide efforts to prevent suicide among service members, veterans, and their families using a trauma‑informed, data‑driven, and equity‑centered approach. The role advances ODVA initiatives by coordinating with federal, state, Tribal, county and local community partners to implement evidence‑based strategies across the full spectrum of suicide prevention and postvention.
Position Responsibilities Include
- Build and strengthen partnerships with federal, state, and Tribal governments, non-profits, and other community organizations focused on reducing stigma, and improving access to suicide prevention resources.
- Coordinate statewide outreach, education, and behavioral health and suicide prevention messaging and campaign.
- Represent ODVA on national and state veteran suicide prevention committees.
- Serve as the co-lead, with the Oregon Health Authority on the Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Military Members, Veterans, and Their Families.
- Collect and analyze data and implement evidence-based strategies to improve program outcomes.
- Develop, evaluate, and enhance suicide prevention programs and services.
- Develop, administer and monitor statewide veteran suicide prevention grant programs.
- Track program performance, evaluate outcomes, and recommend continuous improvements.

What are we looking for?
Program Analyst 3 Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to the agency program that demonstrates the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and four years’ experience coordinating or administering a program
OR;
Any combination of experience or education equivalent to seven years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.
The most competitive candidates will demonstrate experience in one or more of the following requested skill areas:
- Behavioral health or mental health programs
- Suicide prevention or crisis intervention initiatives
- Public health program development and community outreach
- Working with service members, veterans and families (SMVF)’
- Building cross-sector partnerships and coalitions
- Grant development, administration, and monitoring
- Program management and evaluation
- Using data and evidence-based practices to improve outcomes
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of a fingerprint based criminal history background check through the Oregon (LEDS) and National (NCIC) law enforcement data systems. A valid Oregon or Washington State driver’s license is required; must also undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, with ongoing monitoring as a condition of continued employment.

This position will be based out of ODVA's Salem Office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid (work from home/in office) work schedule. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. Remote work is evaluated periodically to ensure business needs are being met and can be adjusted at any time. ODVA will provide necessary hardware (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. This position may require some travel to ODVA offices and sites on an as-needed basis. At ODVA sites, you will have access to a workspace, however, it may be shared with other employees.
