Indian Health Service
Summary Provides clinical pharmacy services and direct pharmaceutical care for patients across the Indian Health Service. The pharmacist is the primary source of clinical information, managing chronic disease patients and providing care for acute patients. Duties Properly interpret, dispense and review prescribed products, ensuring correct labeling, dosages and precautions. Provide specialized services to aid patients with diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and other chronic conditions. Educate patients and providers about drug therapy, interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. Maintain pharmacy files, patient records, inventories, and controlled‑drug control records. Compound and dispense medications by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients as prescribed by practitioners. Serve as a pharmacy consultant and advisor to committees such as the therapeutic agents committee, hospital research committee, and infection control committee. Conditions of Employment U.S. citizenship is required. Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must register with Selective Service. Applicants must complete a federal background investigation and maintain medical staff clinical privileges. Background Investigation Requirement This position requires successful completion of a federal background investigation within five calendar days of issuance of the required forms. Qualifications Documents and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this role. Experience may include paid, unpaid, volunteer and part‑time work; all qualifying experience must be clearly identified with duties, responsibilities and hours per week. Degree: Doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education or equivalent. Licensure: Pass NAPLEX and MPJE; licensed to practice in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico or U.S. territory. Medical: Ability to distinguish basic colors. Experience: Dispensing medications and advising patients and providers on drug usage. Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes in hospitals or managed care settings. Administrative or consultative work for pharmacy programs. Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs. Establishing medication‑handling procedures for storage and preservation. Researching medical literature and providing accurate clinical medication information. Maintaining all legally required medication records. Basic Requirements for GS‑11 and GS‑12 Grades GS‑11: Three years of graduate education leading to Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent. GS‑12: In addition to GS‑11 requirements, at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑11 grade level in the Federal service, including hospital outpatient pharmacy clinic work, medication regimen evaluation, and patient treatment plan monitoring. Education Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts (official transcripts required prior to offer).
