Job Title: Sr Accounting Consultant- Clinical Trials

Location: Hybrid Orange County, Open to San Diego and LA candidates who can come in 1-2 times a month.

Assignment Type: 6 months with potential to extend

Compensation: $50–$70/hr

Position Overview

A late-stage biotechnology company headquartered in Orange County, CA is seeking a Senior Clinical Trials Accountant to join their accounting team on a consulting basis. This position plays a key role in supporting the financial oversight of clinical development programs, with a strong emphasis on accruals, forecasting, and cross‑functional collaboration with Clinical Operations and Finance.

This role offers exposure to highly innovative science and provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing life sciences company.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and prepare clinical trial accruals and ensure accurate expense recognition.
• Develop and maintain trial‑level expense forecasts in partnership with project teams.
• Collaborate closely with Clinical Operations, FP&A, and Accounting to support trial planning and financial reporting.
• Support month‑end and quarter‑end close activities related to clinical programs.
• Provide variance analysis, reconciliations, and trial‑level reporting packages.
• Help strengthen internal processes and ensure compliance with company accounting policies.
• Interpret trial budgets and protocols to align with appropriate accounting treatment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment supporting clinical trials.
• Hands‑on experience with clinical trial accruals and forecasting required.
• Familiarity with trial‑related financial systems (e.g., EDC platforms, cost management tools, or similar) strongly preferred.
• Strong analytical and Excel skills; ability to interpret and present large sets of data.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.
