Senior Product Designer 9amHealth is an AI-enabled virtual specialty care platform focused on managing high-cost chronic conditions at scale. The company partners with employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective medical care for individuals living with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Members receive access to specialized clinicians, including endocrinologists, obesity medicine specialists, and clinical pharmacists, at-home lab testing, prescription medications, and lifestyle support. 9amHealth was founded in 2021 and is backed by leading healthcare investors like Define Ventures, SemperVirens, 7Wire Ventures, and The Cigna Group Ventures. We're hiring a Senior Product Designer to lead design across 9amHealth's member app, a central part of how people manage their care for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weight. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone with strong craft, clear opinions, and the drive to turn complex problems into thoughtful, well-executed experiences. Your scope spans labs, medications, virtual visits, education, nutrition, and tracking, with priorities determining where you focus. Alongside specialty care, you'll help members build habits that support lasting results. We've recently focused on nutrition; movement and mental health support are areas where we still have work to do. Across all of these experiences, the goal is to ease the burden of managing complex conditions without adding unnecessary work. Designing for behavior change takes judgment. Our members have complex clinical needs, and some are vulnerable to disordered eating patterns. You'll work with clinicians to create experiences that encourage progress without pressure or shame, and measure success through both product performance and the value members get from their care. The member app connects directly to our electronic medical record system (EMR), which we built in-house. Clinical data informs what members see, and member actions trigger Care Team workflows. A "message your Care Team" button has a queue behind it. You'll need to understand those connections and account for the people delivering care as well as those receiving it. You'll report to our Head of Design and work day-to-day with a product manager, front-end and back-end engineers, and QA. You'll also collaborate with other product designers across the member and Care Team experiences. Our product and engineering team is distributed across San Diego, California, and Vienna, Austria. This role works Eastern Time hours to support collaboration with both. What You'll Do Lead design across the member app. Take priority problems from discovery through detailed interaction and visual design, implementation, and iteration. Stay involved through delivery and take responsibility for the quality of the shipped experience. Make care easier to follow through on. Design onboarding, care tasks, habit-building experiences, and re-engagement that help members understand their next steps and act on them. Use data to guide and evaluate your work. Partner with your squad to define success, instrument key interactions, and assess activation, funnel conversion, task completion, retention, and sustained engagement. Connect those metrics to member value and use what you learn to improve the product. Build prototypes that answer real questions. Work beyond Figma when the problem calls for it, using code-based prototypes and AI-assisted tools such as Cursor or Claude to test behavior, explore ideas, and collaborate with engineers. Stay close to members. Run research to understand their needs, test assumptions, and identify where the experience helps or gets in the way. Strengthen the design system. Collaborate with designers and engineers to evolve accessible components and interaction patterns that make the product more consistent and easier to build. Design with Care Team operations in mind. Work with clinicians, coaches, and care coordinators to understand how member-facing decisions affect their workflows and reduce avoidable work. Make and explain difficult trade-offs. Balance member needs, clinical considerations, operational capacity, and business goals. Document decisions so the team can revisit assumptions and learn from the results. What We're Looking For Strong craft backed by product judgment. You've led design for a consumer product or substantial product area, from an ambiguous problem to a shipped outcome. Your work shows attention to interaction, visual hierarchy, content, and the details that make an experience feel finished. A clear point of view. You bring ideas, challenge assumptions, and explain your choices. You can critique your own work, respond to feedback, and change direction when the evidence warrants it. Comfort with product metrics. You can explain what changed after launch, how you measured it, and what you did next. You know how to combine quantitative data with research to understand why something is or isn't working. Thoughtful behavior-change design. You understand motivation, progress, and setbacks. You can help people build habits and return after a lapse without relying on guilt, pressure, or rewards that serve no useful purpose. Research that informs decisions. You know how to choose an appropriate method, ask useful questions, and turn findings into changes to the product or its priorities. Fluency with modern prototyping tools. You know when a Figma prototype is enough and when to build something more functional. You can use AI-assisted tools, evaluate their output critically, and refine it to meet your standards. A practical understanding of accessibility. You design interfaces and information that people with different abilities, levels of health literacy, and confidence with technology can use. Initiative and clear communication. You don't wait for a perfect brief. You ask sharp questions, make progress with incomplete information, and bring the team along through clear writing and direct conversation.
